We have a lack of menace at set pieces, who have we got that's likely to head a goal? The best chance is from our defenders and we have to have a strikers instinct in the box.

I've still got faith in Doyle. he can come good, with some reinforcements to help him out a little.

So AFC Wimbledon have scored less than us and they use a target man? Interesting....

Several I believe it was Ardley's way, Josep Pigot, 6'2", James Hanson 6'4", Mitchell Pinnock 6'3",Jake Jervis 6'4" William Robert 6' 1", Terell Thomas 6'.

Phil Parkinson liked his big lads especially at the back, Darby, McArdle, Davies, Meredith, al 6'+ then McLaughlin 6'3", Duke 6'5".

And Portsmouth are top with a target man in Oliver Hawkins.

It just seems pretty evident from Hopkin's style that a target man is required. Whether we can get a good one is another matter!

Shithouse in the Andrew Davies mould is the top priority for me. Won't have any chance of staying up with the defence leaking goals like it does. A leader willing to put his body on the line and gobble up centre halves is exactly what we need. Will get nowhere fast with mistake a minute McGowan.

It might even allow Hopkin to revert to a 442... for which we will then need some decent wingers...

Darby isn’t 6ft +. I remember at the start of the 12-13 season we started with a back four of Meredith Davies Oliver McArdle. Then did Oliver get injured and Darby came into the team?

Yes. McArdle started at RB, but shifted inside to cover injury, Darby came in at right back and the rest is history.

I hope they are more Rory McArdle and Nicky Law than Mark Stewart and Chris Mitchell. The Scottish leagues are terrible!

I think that during a recent match commentary John Dreyer said he had recommended Hawkins to City before he joined Portsmouth.
