I've explained my posts. If you're going to snipe, at least read my posts properly and don't misquote me.

 

But we have also stopped conceding, yet that doesn’t change your stance that we will bring in 2 defenders out of the 3 players to be signed? You’ve also written that Hopkin will want at least 2 experienced defenders on the bench.... but at the risk of having NO experienced forwards? I just can’t see that

 

We do have some depth in midfield - but it was all injured for the Accrington game. JOB, Akpan, Colville, Mellor, even Scannell can play in a midfield 3. We have Ball and Jones for cover up front, as well as Bruenker. Defensively we only have Mellor and one of the 3 centre backs as possible cover. The rest are kids.

As I say, I an ideal world we'd bring in 5. But I'll be amazed if we don't bring in a couple of defenders, minimum.

 

Did you or did you not state you believe there will be 3 definites and that would be 2 defenders and a winger? No forward and no midfielder?

So you don’t believe we need players for other positions as much as those?

I'm not sure how else to put it across.

Yes, I'm convinced we'll sign 2 players who can play in defence and a left winger.

I'd like to see us sign a striker, and I think it's likely. I think Jones will move on and we'll bring someone in to replace him. That's what I'd like to see happen, but I'm less certain about it.

Midfield I think depends on what happens with JOB and Payne. If we keep both, and Colville is almost back, and Mellor and Scannell are expected back this month, I'm least certain that we'll add a midfielder.

I'd love us to replace Chicksen but don't think we will.

Ultimately, none of us know, because none of us know the budget we have available.

 

JONES? feck me, you may as well have listed Reeves as a midfield option too...! Mellor is a right-back cum right-centreback. He has played a couple of games in midfield, but he’s no midfielder. As for Scannell, he won’t be fit for another couple of months. Jim O’Brien has been injured more than available, so we only have Akpan and Colville and both have been injured for long spells this season.

We need 1 defender, 1 central midfielder and a forward and we all know Hopkin wants a winger. I’d be amazed if we signed 2 defenders and no forward or midfielder

 

Jones is fit, Reeves isn't. So yes, he's an option. You seem to have missed the bit where I said I want him replaced though.And Mellor has looked better in midfield than defence.

It wouldn't surprise me if one of the defenders was similar to Mellor, I.e. someone who can cover both defence and midfield. I think Hopkin will add a centre back and someone who can cover 2 or 3 positions across the back and midfield.

Money permitting, I could also see a midfielder and striker coming in too.

I guess much will depend on who goes and how much Rupp is putting in.

The priority areas have to be those where there is least security.

At left back we have both Chicksen and Wood. We need to improve on both, IMO, but you look at our attacking midfield/striker options and we're at the mercy of Huddersfield, Rotherham and Middlesbrough.

Hell, even if we kept them all, injuries to Payne and Ball would set us back half a season. Miller and Doyle may look good when those two are buzzing around, beating players and grafting their backsides off, but they'll quickly revert to type if we have to rely on Doyle's questionable work ethic and Miller's questionable on-ball ability. Confidence will drop again, and we'll go backwards.

On that basis, it's important we sign someone who can compete with Payne and Ball, someone who is comfortable on the ball - or, an out-and-out striker who offers something different to what we already have.

A signing in the forward line is essential.

 

Some young defender on loan from Celtic whose fans say is sh*t. And Payne going to Milwall.

Not off to a great start.

 

We need a fairly quick decision on Payne and Ball. But as you say, it's not in our gift to control.

 

Why the hell did we get rid of Abbott? He loved a player that offered 'something a bit different'.

If he didn't he should have! Bruenker is about as different to a striker as you can get!

 

By my reckoning we’ve got 6 experienced defenders. Caddis, McGowan, O’C, NKP, Mellor, Chicksen. And Chicksen ain’t very good.

That’s a couple short. And our bench shows it.

 

Left back Chicksen wood. Right back. Mellor McGowan Riley Caddis, centre back Caddis McGowan O’Connor Nkp mellor, holding mid, akpan job mellor O’Connor, centre mid ob mellor job colville akpan, attacking mid Payne ball, strikers miller jones Doyle bruenker. Looks like. Centre mid and attacking mid are crunch points. Centre back may get tricky if players have to cover elsewhere. Striker will be nice but 90% of clubs will be after one

 

If they are under embargo and their loans ended how come they played on Saturday

 

Someone has to want Jones. With his record, I can't see anyone touching him. I think it's going to be harder to shift the deadwood - Jones, Reeves, Wright, than get in new players. Might all hinge on that....

 

I'd imagine their loan deals ended on the 31st.
