We could do with a target man.

So the players mentioned made no impression at United? They didn’t have a massive part to play? You are fricking deluded Fordy and refuse to accept when you’re wrong

I agree. We need a better option than Bruenker. But, as with Chicksen, Hopkin keeps giving him game time. That may be purely down to a lack of options though.

Yes, disgusting how Bolton are going about their business. Seems they don't give two sh*ts about anything.

Agree, but I wouldn't spend a transfer fee on a player who'd essentially be 3rd choice.

“We may add a striker - although I'm less certain of that than I was a few weeks ago. I think that'll be it”....!

That was your comment, right? You did list the players you thought we needed and that didn’t include a centre forward? Or have I got that wrong?

Until our loan players are sorted we don't know if he'd be 3rd choice, tbf.

Very true. And who mentioned there having to be a transfer fee involved. I’m sure there are some targetmen not being played that we can bring in on loan that are better than Brunker ?

I think the point is that what happens with Ball and Payne affects what our transfer priorities are, how much money we have to spend to replace them if they go and what monies are left for other reinforcements.

Yeah. You haven't really read it have you? Can you highlight the bit where I say that I don't think we need a striker?

I've said that I'm less certain we'll add one. Which I am. A month ago I thought it was priority 1. Now, I don't think it is. I think we still need one, and I'd like to see us add one because we lack depth. But we've found a system that rains goals, and it doesn't need a target man. An injury to Doyle or Miller would be a problem - but we played without Doyle against Walsall and pushed Ball further forward - we still scored 4. An extra striker makes sense. But we can cope for a game or two if we have to, whereas the lack of experienced defensive cover is a huge risk. You can nick points in this league by being solid and not having a huge firepower. Losing a couple of defenders would hurt us more. And Chicksen being in the team is a problem.

I think Hopkins biggest priority will be a left winger, because we don't have one, and a couple of defensive reinforcements. If we can keep Payne, LOB and Ball, and with Scannell to come back, attacking additions probably aren't as pressing for Hopkin. But in a perfect world we'll bring in 5 and they'll all be quality.

No but if you have to replace them then you have a decision to make about who’s available how much budget is available, what position is most important etc. If you lose Payne you may decide I can put up with a Chicksen and put all my eggs in one basket to get an attacking midfielder. ie if ball and Payne stay you can think about replacing those positions. I’d argue that central defence or centre midfield aren’t priorities and left back isn’t disastrous.

Personally I think the 3 'definites' we'll bring in are CB, LW and a versatile defender. The maybes - depending on budget will be a striker and another central midfielder. And then a possible replacement for Payne.

But it’s got nothing to do with Ball; he’s here for the season so the scaremongering can stop on that one. It’s only Payne that we risk losing.

As such the rest of our recruitment still needs to happen. We still need a centre-half, central midfielder, centre-forward, a winger and I’d still prefer a left-back. They are needed irrespective of whether Payne leaves or not

A CB may have become less likely considering we have NKP, McGowan and O'Connor all fully fit and playing.

Maybe. I'd be stunned if we don't bring in at least 1 player who can play CB though. I think Hopkin would always want at least 2 experienced defensive players on the bench.

Nope, still disagree. You cite the fact that we scored goals without Doyle. Equally, we kept clean sheets without NKP and then O’Connor. How can one be deemed more necessary than the other?

The fact remains that Hopkin is having to give minutes to Brunker and he wouldn’t if we had a better option. The pitches are going to get worse over the coming months and the good footballing that Ball, Doyle and Payne currently provide will be harder to replicate. You do remember Sheffield United signing Hanson for that exact reason. We have to have a better option from the bench than Brunker or Patrick...!

Do you understand the game? You have been looking at our bench? You think the only definites are a CB (despite having 3 currently performing), a LW and a versatile defender?

But we have no back-up for the forward position or central midfield. We even had to use a central defender on Tuesday because of a lack of options. Yet you still don’t think we need another? And we had to bring on a kid up front in that game, but you don’t agree we are desperately lacking options up top?

    Are you related to Park?

We're not disagreeing, you're just not reading my posts properly.

I'd like to see us sign 5 players. CB, LB, CM, LW, ST.

I don't know whether the budget will allow that. And on the basis that we've now started to score goals, I'm less certain than I was a month ago that we'll get a striker. I don't think it's unlikely, and I'm not saying that I think we should leave it.

    Let's see what January brings.
