Does Hopkin know you are making enquiries on his behalf or are you doing it as a surprise?

    Hopkin on target men:

    He said: “I don’t think it’s a necessity.

“Yeah I’d like it but there aren’t many targetmen about.

“If one becomes available and I can get him in, then I will do. But it’s not our main priority.

“If I can get a striker in with good movement who can score goals, then that’s the type I will go for.”

The way we are playing this is no bad thing imo, good to have one as an option, but not our main focal point.

Peter Thorne couldn’t even run and he got 31 in 77 for city. If only we had had him 5 years younger. In my top 3 of all time city strikers Thorne. Class

    Good on the lad.

To be fair, I'm glad none of these random foreign gambles have hurt the players' careers. Brunker is at a higher level, and hopefully Isherwood gets a decent deal in Sweden.

What they were doing in League One playing for a side promising to 'develop' them I have no idea.

So glad the development crap is done with.

I think we know the answers to all of these questions.
    Money.
League position won't have helped either.

The only way to attract good players to a team in the relegation spots is to pay them over the odds wages and/or, if they're older players, offer them long secure contracts.

We are clearly not in the business of doing either of those, having failed to get the likes of Riley and Wright off the books. We let Jim O'Brien go because he wanted a longer contract.

I'm quite sure that Hopkin had all kinds of different options lined up but was either outbid or the players he wanted weren't prepared to come here.

Rahic has screwed us and the effects will be felt for a long time. Rupp has put his hand in his pocket for running costs to keep us afloat in the short term, but clearly hasn't been prepared to gift us the big sums needed to seriously improve the squad, which suggests to me that he wants out.

My take on Rupp is that his intentions are honourable and he genuinely believed that Rahic would run the club well - most of his ideas, on the face of it, were very attractive. The fact that the club was so mismanaged is something that Rupp probably feels guilty over. I think that in the short term he’ll cover the debts/loss making costs that Rahic saddled us with - but I’d expect that his longer term intentions centre around finding new owners or investors. I don’t think he’ll have designs on putting money in, year-on-year.

I wouldn’t expect much outlay in Jan. A couple of loans, and maybe we take over a contract or two if we can get a couple out of the door.

We should be doing all we can to sign Jack Payne permanently.

He wouldn’t be cheap but it’s an opportunity to sign a top player, who’s proving himself at the club, for below market rate - he’s out of contract in the summer and the fee involved shouldn’t be hugely significant to Huddersfield. Hopefully they’d avoid a haggling game.

And his resale potential could be huge. He’d be a true investment rather than a splurge. I’d love us to have this sort of ambition for once.

Very well said Onside, well considered and a change from Fordy's vitriol.
Stefan has made it clear he wants and needs to put things right, that he will continue to invest (and is just to keep us afloat) and that he's here for the longhaul.
I would suggest that if Stefan had not invested heavily last summer and since we would be in admin and heading for L2 or worse, such is the mess Edin made. I think Companies House now shows Stefan's intentions.
As I've said before this season is all about finishing fifth bottom, anything else is a bonus, Julian has said it, Stefan has said it.
Future ownership if there is to be a change is well down the line and over the distant horizon.

A fit and firing Scannell in this new look City would tear up league one. The way we are breaking at speed is tailor made for Scannell

I can't see O'Brien joining on a perm deal especially since he's just signed a 3 year deal at Huddersfield prior to joining us on loan. He's highly thought of at Huddersfield and a talent that they will be keeping for the future.

A general consensus on the Barnsley forum seems to be that we were arguably the worst team to visit Oakwell this season. And us being one of if not the form team of the division over the last half a dozen games.
If we take anything from yesterdays game its that we stick to what we do best, playing players out of position and reverting to long ball hoof will see us relegated. Also new players are badly needed to bolset what is a very weak squad, we can’t have another episode where Hopkin plays one of our best defenders in midfield because we have bugger all else as options.

The Bantams thrashed out a revised contract with parent club Huddersfield to keep top scorer Payne. It is understood that they will now pay a significantly larger proportion of the deal, which is not far off his full wages

Rupp clearly showing he wants to set things right and protect his investment in the process. Bravo to him
