Bowyer also isn't in to Hanson/Cook etc style strikers. He likes to play mobile No.9 and (in theory) have a No.10 type and some pace playing around them. Elliot probably isn't his cup of tea.

Lavery is a funny one I forget which match it was but he was on from the start and he was easily the best player on the park until he got injured have hardly seen him since he looks a better bet to me than Robinson. But the system we play only allows for one striker

Now I'm more than aware that I am massaging figures (or am I??) but both Andy Cook and Tom Elliott have been involved in 19 games at league 2 this season.

Andy Cook has 8 goals and 1 assist from 17 starts. Games with direct goal involvement 8

Tom Elliott has 4 goals and 3 assists from 11 starts. Games with direct goal involvement 7

Happy to be bracketed with the realistic @Park bantam@Park bantam any day of the week, rather than the fantasy island world you live in - as indicated by the players you clearly think are easy to find.

I've no interest in a 32 year old Championship player that's scored 2 goals and will cost us a packet. If you have, then fine, but please don't suggest that I'm been a hypocrite.

Elliot is a short term fix as no matter what happens this season, the squad will be getting a full revamp. We don't want large wage salaries as they head into their 35th year - as will be the case with Smith for Salford

What? Because I have realistic expectations of players? When debating, if you disagree with someone you really don't have to insult them.

I mean I know it's hard to imagine that people have different opinions on a forum, but try to understand that a bit please.

Short term fix? What is he fixing exactly? Because it sure isn't our goalscoring problems.

Adams seems to get better results from physical forwards in his 4231, so this one might work out well.

Bringing it back a year, when we signed Cook from Mansfield he scored 3 in 20 in L2 at a goal every 293 minutes. Tom Elliott this season for Salford has scored 4 in 19 in L2 at a goal every 276 minutes. Very similar records. Not comparing the twos style of play, but look at the fan bases love for Andy Cook now... seems pointless to write a player off before he's kicked a ball.

I remember that, but can't remember which game it was either!! Don't tell @NorthernMonkey@NorthernMonkey though, they'll think you've been drinking.

If he can come on with 15 or so minutes left in a match and give Cook a rest meaning Cook doesn't get injured whilst we also have a physical presence up front then keeping Cook fit could be just as valuable as any other new signing.

Hopefully it will help with better possession we have signed Walker and Daly for more goals

Don't remember seeing him play so will have to reserve judgement until I have seen him on the pitch. No doubt Fordy will have seen him play and will no all about him.

I judge anyone we sign with a clean slate, though that doesn't preclude me from judging what I expect to happen on the basis of the signing itself. Lets see how he does. But frankly, I'm seriously underwhelmed and see this type of signing as yet another indication that this club is serious about getting promotion.

I remember him being okay against Farsley in pre season quite a few years ago….

seriously if this is the only striker signing it’s poor, very poor and a reflection of the lack of ambition.

if we’ve signed Elliot as a target man and bring in a more mobile/quick striker I’ll be okay with that as it gives us other options

And yet we have signed Walker Bass and possibly Daly all excellent signings

So what would you do with Cook then I actually think Cook would benefit by playing of a target man rather than trying to be one

An excellent signing. Quality striker. Big strong tall and powerful. Just what we need. Also to know we have beaten Stockport County to his signature is very refreshing.

You need to recognise that Cook is not the best fitness wise and now Angol has, not unexpectedly, broken down again we do need an additional target man. I would love Robinson or Lavery to now go out on loan and a pacey striker with an eye for goal to take their place - but I would also like to win the lottery!

But you can't say 'excellent' based on the small sample sizes played at City. Far too early.

I'm not convinced we have goalscoring problems as much as goal creating ones. We've just scored 4 goals in 2.5 games and created less than we normally do.

Cook been fit is important. Elliot gives us both cover for him and he can play alongside him
