Our team is crying out for a target man who can cause centre halves problems, hold the ball up & win knockdowns for the midfield. Having just brought in Walker & Daly to add to Sutton, Cooke and Watt who all like a shot but rarely get opportunities maybe Del Boy is building a team to play his way, maybe he actually does know what he’s doing........
Sorry I know that doesn’t fit with lots of peoples agendas on here anymore!

I know diddy squat about him, so have no idea if he is any good, but he is 6ft4 and has a lot better physicality than Robinson or Lavery. As for being the same as Cook, he clearly isn't. Cook is not a natural back to goal striker, nor is he a target man that brings other into the game, and he's only playing that way because we have nothing else.
I'll pass judgement on him when I've seen him play, but even if we do have a bigger fan base than anyone else and potentially more money (if we chose to spend it) we were never going to get Dom Telford or Jamile Matt. That's not an acceptance of mediocrity, its an acceptance that at this stage of the season you can only sign players that other clubs are willing to let go.Stop hovering to collapse... Other than Cook we have no one who can win balls at the top of the pitch. We've needed a presence for a while and with the other attacking midfielders brought in, he could be a perfect fit for them. We still need another striker in the building though.

Off the top of my head, I can think of maybe two strikers that have left Bradford City in the last 10 years and joined a team at least a division higher (Wells & McBurnie - nearly included Wyke but Sunderland were in the same league when he left). You can pin a number of reasons for that, we either lose patience with strikers and ditch them into the reserves. Or we lose patience with the manager that brought them in and the new manager ditches said striker into the reserves.CRASS, Ollylondonbantam, Bigrod and 8 others like this. -

Last English club Bobby Campbell played for before joining us, he mustered a meagre three goals in twenty appearances ... just saying
Elliot may turn out like many of the non-scoring centre-forrads we've had over the years. However as far as I'm concerned, I'm all for giving the lad a chance, he starts here with a clean slate. And its up to him whether he endears himself into our folklore, or becomes another quickly forgotten failure.WilsdenBantam, Bronco, Bantam75 and 7 others like this. -

We cannot complain that our forwards aren't scoring goals when they play:
Andy Cook: 9 goals in 20 league appearances
Lee Angol: 5 goals in 11 league appearances
Look, I get they're both a little injury prone (Cook never looks 100 % fit, and Angol has knackered himself yet again), but we aren't lacking a ton of goals from our strikers. Our centre forwards are easily top 7 in this division, and that's where we need to be.
Newport have Telford, FGR have Matt and Stevens. Everybody else is a much of a muchness, and you could EASILY argue we're potentially top three in terms of strikers, actual strikers.
What has let us down all season is goals from every single position outside of STRIKER and LEFT FORWARD (Angol).
There has been too much focus on all transfer window on a striker; all right, if we're signing Georgie Kelly, no worries, we've just upgraded on Cook - but upgrading on Cook is unlikely. Upgrading on the goal-to-game ratio of Callum Cooke, Alex Gilliead and Charles Vernam is the route of least resistance, and quite rightly that's what we've targeted.
But this window is only a success if the likes of Daly and Walker make a noticeable difference. Pereira looks for all the world like a dud, but if we can add a few goals from midfield AND if the signing of Bass looks as promising as it did during the Walsall game, who's to say Elliott isn't an astute signing?
It's unlikely he walks straight into the first team, it's unlikely he's responsible for scoring most of our goals, but it's also unlikely his presence in the squad does anything but strengthen us.
Unfortunately some of the analysis in this thread is pretty embarrassing. He's come in as competition for Cook, nothing more, nothing less. Now if Cook is injured for a substantial period in the coming weeks, we probably didn't reinforce adequately; that's the gamble the club have taken, quite clearly.Bantam75, Fuzzy, borderlescott and 7 others like this. -

For God sakes give the lad a chance the ink is not dry and your slagging him off
When he came on for Salford 2weeks ago he was a hand full for our defenders
Let's hope our wide men can get crosses in to use his height at 6ft 4 he might reach some of our crosses

Robinson, Lavery and Elliot - id much prefer those wages were used on 1 credible striker, backed up by a young youth loan.
When are City going to learn about quality over quantity. Get ya quality in then yse the loan market and academy to boost the quantity.

Forwards either click at clubs or don't, We have signed "Top Forwards" like Doyle who have failed here but scored well elsewhere, Lets give the guy a chance before writing him off, Have seen him play a few times and was always a handful for defences with his height and strength,

as hard as it may seem to some on here, you need an out an out target man if you want to be successful in league two. if Elliot can take the pressure off cook, give us a focal point for our long balls an allow the midfield players to get into the game i.e. Walker, Vernam, Daly & Cook then il consider this transfer a success.
Stop writing off signings an get behind them ffs. Wells was a Carlisle reject when we signed him yet he’s probably the best striker we’ve had for the better part of 13 years here. Hanson was just a shelf stacker at the Coop, an got 10-15 goals a season through his numerous years with us, yet he was imperative to the success Parky brought to our club an ingrained himself as a club legend. Now im not saying that Elliot will emulate the success of those two, but he can play his part in what remains of this seasonCraven Koppite, Kopendin1964, Lancashire Bantam and 5 others like this. -

FFS another 'MEH' signing! We already have two strikers at the club who don't score. All done on the cheap once again. Talk about being 'over sold' a product

Pretty safe signing, I imagine he will be on the bench to begin with, replacing Cook if we're winning or brought on to partner him if we're chasing games.
If Cook gets injured, it's a better replacement than any of our other options.
This is very much a striker signing in the Parky mould - men, not boys, won't need time to get up to speed, could potentially slot in from day one, and gives us an easy route option.
I think this is a much better signing than people want to give credit for, while not as interesting as a non league/Irish gamble.
If we'd signed Georgie though, I reckon we'd have chances in the play offs - but I'm saying we finish 11th ish with this squad. -
Maybe in Walker and/or Daly we have the players to benefit from his hold up play.
