He literally headed the ball to Watt for the goal.....

I think the plan when you chuck him on is to go a little longer with the passing. Due to his size and a bit of speed for a bloke his build, the defence tends to double up on that long ball. The hope will be he can still win the ball or cause enough problems that those doubling up will have left space for a player to fill and attack the second phase..... we just need to stop having the most static attacking midfielders on the planet when Vernam isn't playing.

The sad thing is that lumping the ball into the box at the end was the most exciting part of the night. Not that it was exciting but at least it created a couple of half chances, which was a couple more than had occurred up to that point.

We need more goals in the team and we sign another hold up striker who plays with his back to goal. 8 league goals in the last 5 years in 78 appearances. So 1 goal in every 10 games. Just what we need. Unless we are signing another quick striker to play off him or Cook (that also scores regularly) then this is another useless signing.

They replaced him before getting rid it seems with Matt Smith last week.

They have Smith, Henderson, Thomas-Asante, Hunter and McAleny who can play upfront.

According to Parker he's scored 4 goals in 11 starts this season. That's not too shabby.

If we play him and Cook together ideally we need width for crosses which we haven't been doing. We've been narrow for a while now. Can't see playing both strikers and attacking midfielders.

Why did we need a pacy goalscorer, have we changed managers/squads with someone else?

The new scouting network has provided value for money to date in unearthing players. - not - given that every loan signing according to Adams he has known about them and tracked their progress.

Ain’t impressed with his scoring record but we clearly need someone who will hold the ball up in the attacking area and if he does that job fair enough ............... not having a go but did folk think that we would get a forward in who scores plenty of goals ???? That type of player costs money and by the looks of it we ain’t got a pot to pee in :(

Perhaps if Lavery & Robinson ever started a match they might score. Coming off the bench for 5 minutes doesn't give them a lot of chance does it.

Dunno, the last few games we've had no shape whatsoever to create anything. My guess is Adams has reverted to his usual m/o of being defensively set up and going route one. Elliott would fit that style. City have just put up a highlight reel (we all love one of those) and it's pretty much all off the back of crosses from wide out which simply don't do enough of. Unless we have a winger lined up and we go with Tom and Cook upfront. Which I'll admit isn't gonna happen.

Now I'm more than aware that I am massaging figures (or am I??) but both Andy Cook and Tom Elliott have been involved in 19 games at league 2 this season.

Andy Cook has 8 goals and 1 assist from 17 starts. Games with direct goal involvement 8

Tom Elliott has 4 goals and 3 assists from 11 starts. Games with direct goal involvement 7

If he can come on with 15 or so minutes left in a match and give Cook a rest meaning Cook doesn't get injured whilst we also have a physical presence up front then keeping Cook fit could be just as valuable as any other new signing.

And yet we have signed Walker Bass and possibly Daly all excellent signings

I'm not convinced we have goalscoring problems as much as goal creating ones. We've just scored 4 goals in 2.5 games and created less than we normally do.

Cook been fit is important. Elliot gives us both cover for him and he can play alongside him

Personally I would prefer to see a decent ball winning midfielder to help stop us being pinned back in our own half

I wasn't dancing around my Office. But I can see the logic. I don't get why this has you questioning our promotion ambitions. Not getting Bass and making do with the other keepers would support your theory. I don't think you sign five players in January if you're not trying to improve. Let's remember even though the footie can be trying at times, we don't lose much and are 5 & 8 points of the play-offs and automatic. It isn't as though vast improvement is needed. Out of the teams above us, I'd only rate Forest Green, Tranmere and Port Vale as been better - but even then it's marginal.

Surely with Cook, Lavery, Robinson, Walker, Pereira and this signing to say nothing of the creativity of Vernon and potential midfield goals from Daley - we should have enough to get that vital average of 1.5 goals per game.

Let's remember we've not seen a fully fit Lavery. The pandemic etc has probably done him a favour.

Clearly, Adams isn't letting any of these go and he's emphasised the need for almost a second squad - so they will figure.
