I think loans til the end of the season allow Adams to have a good clearout in the summer and rebuild. He'll be down to 6 or 7 in contract so will have plenty of scope within his budget. The recruitment has to be spot on in the summer.

If you bothered paying attention to posts, rather than just looking at wiki and assuming that because a player has scored a few more goals than another he is better, and reading the content of the post rather than pulling out the bit you disagree with, you might actually understand other peoples post of view.

You would also see there isn't a single part of my body that would get anywhere near Rupp/ Adams or Sparks and I've been critical of all three for a lot of the last three months in particular.

Smith is marginally better than Elliott but not enough to make him a good signing if we had brought him in. You cant see the wood for the trees can you ?

We have 14 players out of contract in June and Adams is clearly bringing in loans (which other than the Invisible man) all seem to be better than what we have here, especially a target man to replace the useless Lavery & Robinson, so that he can fully clear the decks and start again next year.

Bring in permanent signings now and they are on the books until June 23 at least.

It makes total sense to bring in loans in January to allow a clear start in June, whatever league we are in.

This club hasn't got a prayer of progressing as long as every time we sign a player he is written off before he's even kicked a ball. Player contracts run to June so EVERYONE signed in January, whether permanent or on loan, is a player that another club feels they can do without. Pretty much in the same way Millwall felt they could do without Smith.

Players don't have to come from higher leagues to be a good fit or better than you already have and people who disagree with your (mainly) negative and (definitely) limited views are not always up the arse of Rupp/ Sparks or Adams.

As Alan Brazil would say "if you don't like it - Radio Four"

In theory, I agree. But what do you do when the crop you've got keep massively underachieving?
You've got to have a clearout because they aren't good enough.

Parky recruited a lot of league 1 players to get promoted from league 2. Those players could then cope with league 1 when we got promoted and stayed with the club for a number of years. Then it was just tweaks in each window with a core of Darby, Meredith, McCardle, Reid etc

That costs a lot of money though. More than Rupp is willing to put in.

'Sustainable' doesn't pay league 1 wages, when you're in league 2.

    Nonsense.

How the club progresses has absolutely zero to do with what anyone thinks of a player before he’s played. Guthrie, DMH, Robinson, if everyone had been praising them when they signed would they have actually been any better?

I have no idea how Elliot will fit in City’s side, if he comes in, plays well and scores a few he’ll have proved every doubter wrong. That’s on him now.

What’s holding the club back is having to rely on rubbish like DMH and Guthrie because of a badly run club and a disinterested owner.

Somethings never change, your like a broken record sir.
Who exactly do you think we should be signing and where is the money coming from.
5 players in this window and 3 have already helped to gain points Bass, Walker , Daly
Are these players playing for nothing .

I've just shook my head, and I still think he looked dreadful.

I am by no means writing him off, just my personal observation on his performance today.

Why would Salford allow him to come here.
Maybe they think he’ll weaken us. Seems a strange decision from Bowyer.

We need a physical presence up front someone who can lead the line and bring cook and our attacking midfielders who can score goals into the game. Whether Elliot is the right one remains to be seen

Confused with this signing.. Elliot it about the same level as Robinson who can’t get a game. So we’ve signed another non scoring impact sub.
Salford wouldn’t have let him come here if he was any good. Baffling.

I'd argue, that currently it's lack of creativity that's the problem. 6 goals in this 5 match 10 point sequence isn't great - until your realise that 4 were away from home.

If Pereira starts firing and Vernon gets back to his best etc - then I'm fine now that we have three of four strikers who will convert the chances. Let's remember Lavery is decent, he just needs to stay fit for a few weeks.

Once we didn't get our targets in summer, it was always going to be a struggle.

So another target man for us to aimlessly lump the ball up to. IF we had a decent midfield who can run onto knock downs and second balls, then I could understand it. But we don't. If we had two decent wingers or full backs who can swing dangerous crosses into the box, then I could understand it. But we don't.

This is just another signing to bring on for Cook after 75 mins.

Well when he was brought on against us he played very well. We don’t have any end product so let’s see what he does with the cooky monster.

Hes crap. Dress it up all you want. Where does he even get into our team? Unless Adams is going to change from a system he’s always used then he’s nothing but an impact sub. We needed a pacey goal scorer who can get in behind defenders. Not a plodder with a 1 in 10 record.

Who are these pacey strikers with a one in three record that are available in the January market ?

Problem is the way we are playing is the problem. Just swapping Cook with Elliott ain't gonna change that. Like you I don't think it's the worst signing I've seen but let's not kid ourselves that it's someone who's been on the radar for ages. Hes just what's available after Salford deemed him not good enough.
Looks to me like we didn't have any realistic striker targets at the beginning of January.

Tom Elliot has always been a handful for defenders on the few times I've seen him and he has the attributes to be a decent target man in League 2. But he isn't a replacement for Angol and I doubt very much that he will add much to our goal tally. We remain short of another recognised goal scorer to take some pressure off Cook (as we did in the last transfer window!) and time is running out. It's not looking hopeful so good luck to Sparks when the season tickets go on sale.

This club doesn't change. And the same people will keep making the same excuses.

Without new ownership and a completely new ethos, this club is going nowhere. Well, nowhere but backwards.

I remember him being okay against Farsley in pre season quite a few years ago….

seriously if this is the only striker signing it’s poor, very poor and a reflection of the lack of ambition.

if we’ve signed Elliot as a target man and bring in a more mobile/quick striker I’ll be okay with that as it gives us other options
