We had no one to hold it up at Walsall, so in that respect, this signing makes some sense. I’d like to see 4-4-2 with Adams pairing him with Cook but that just isn’t Adams’ way. We know Cook struggles fitness wise so this signing should relieve some pressure and give us a better rotation option.
As Wilsden has said above, I still worry there’s no sign of a RB or a main striker.
Threlkeld is so so bad.

Decent loan signing this. He may not be prolific scorer but he is a right handful and as different qualities to Cook.
Be good to see them play together and go with 4-4-2, but doubt Adams will do thatJudgeMental, Bantam75, shoatsy and 3 others like this. -
Hang on, I thought we didn't accept mediocrity at this football club?

This is a depressing signing. Another journeyman, non scoring striker. Every window its the same old crap.
We will be ready for January Sparks told us....JudgeMental, The Evidence, Manningham bantam and 3 others like this. -
Tell me how he’s better than Theo Robinson? He isn’t. It’s a cheap and lazy signing and the comments from Salford fans confirm what we all know.

Adams seems to get better results from physical forwards in his 4231, so this one might work out well.
Bringing it back a year, when we signed Cook from Mansfield he scored 3 in 20 in L2 at a goal every 293 minutes. Tom Elliott this season for Salford has scored 4 in 19 in L2 at a goal every 276 minutes. Very similar records. Not comparing the twos style of play, but look at the fan bases love for Andy Cook now... seems pointless to write a player off before he's kicked a ball.RCarol, Hampshire Bantam, baggers and 3 others like this. -
I think this signing can be filed under sensible. Adams has acknowledged that he prefers a certain route in January and its one you can understand. At this level when it comes to strikers you usually have to pay over the odds and take a bit of a risk like Salford have done with Matt Smith, or take a punt on a young lad from higher up the leagues who's barely played a first team game like Newport yesterday.
With Elliot, its a short term deal and we know he'll provide better a better option and more appropriate cover for our first choice striker than Robinson & Lavery. I think it's a smart addition and hopefully he is as good as the last L2 striker we signed on loan in January.Keefly Bantam, Doodle, Inspector and 3 others like this. -

Some of the crap i have read on here today, has cheered up a pretty shit work day.
Give the guy a chance, how any one can write him off before kicking a ball is completely beyond me.
He might be a good fit in the team, he might not. But give the lad a few games before condeming him.Kevin1954, Bronco, Keefly Bantam and 3 others like this. -
The bloke hasn’t kicked a ball yet. Give him a shot. If we play to his strengths he could be a significant asset. If we don’t, like Eoin Doyle he will struggle. Let’s hope for the former. A signing that will help Cook as holding the ball up isn’t his forte. If it releases Cook to bang in the goals it could be an inspired decision.

What did people expect? He won his flick ons and did about all he could in the time he was on. Can’t remember any crosses being out in for him to attack

Surplus to requirements at Salford but was playing championship two years ago. Probably an ideal fit for the way we just pump long balls down field.

He might be able to get on the end of the "long" throws that we insist on throwing to the edge of the box.

Forget tales of going for promotion to sell tickets, platitudes, and fans forums, and hash tags, and podcasts with the chairman, this signing tells you everything you need to know about the genuine level of ambition this club - and its owner - has.

I'm sorry but this is a woeful signing. He may be a good target man but we need a goalscorer and he absolutely isn't that.
New scouting team in place and the best we can come up with is another washed up journeyman from down the road. Give me strength. The Evidence, Petrov, Manningham bantam and 2 others like this. -

Stats wise, hell of some wires crossed here. Don't know where the 1 in 10 comes from??
19 league appearances this season, 11 from the off with 8 substituted on. 4 goals and 3 assists scoring the winner at Port Vale last week.
https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tom-elliott/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/46805/wettbewerb/GB4/saison/2021
Don't know much about the lad but he's up to speed, underlying stats are nowhere as bad as some suggest.
DA now has a plethora of options (yes, some are not the greatest) but this next few weeks are a bigger test of his ability to find a cohesive squad, hopefully one that is more expensive, that grinds out results.
One thing that can't be overlooked. Our last 5 results are up their with our start to the season. Performance on the eye, well definitely not so.
But I won't lie, I would take 10 points from the next 15, even with the "standard" of football observed lately, especially if DA can integrate the 4 outfield loan signings.Keefly Bantam, Brackenrigg, JonButterfield and 2 others like this.
