It reminds me of our second season in the PL ....... Once Jim Jeffries began his 'fire sale' I was sick to the back teeth of watching City slowly die ......... I attended 2 games in the January - Then that was it !! My season ticket (NOT £150 !!) was tossed aside, and I began to enjoy family weekends again. I saw perhaps 10 games over the next 3 seasons, as my love for football dwindled :(
YES ........ Entertainment, therefore enjoyment has a lot to do with attending - NOT just a League table ........ which as yet, still has to be played out.

But they haven't returned so they can't be too bothered about coming back and have found other things to occupy their weekends so I'm not expecting the club to sell more next season even if we get promoted.

Fans go through different stages of following City in their life, though I expect the club never leaves them.

When I was in my teens I would have never missed a home game. It was unthinkable, I’d have crawled over broken glass to watch us.

Even when moving away to uni I’d get the train home every week, even if it meant walking home by the time the return train had arrived and the last buses had stopped. Those were the days of Colin Todd, Gareth Edds, Robert Wolleaston and Luke Cornwall lol. Must have been mad (or sad!).

But then you grow up, have kids and suddenly it can become a bit of a hindrance going every weekend. Certainly no time for away games, but can justify home games with the mrs due to cost. Some weeks, just can’t be bothered now and don’t go religiously. That’s not due to Bowyer’s style (I like him and agree we need to prioritize results and promotion for us this year) but just just due to having a family and other stuff going on at weekends. I do most homes, but aren’t as enthusiastic as in the past.

As Faithful Bantam mentioned, Ifollow now opens up chances to watch without leaving the house though, which is often easier than swapping shifts and causing disruption when sometimes you’ve got conflicts with work.

I’m not there yet but I imagine by the time I’m in my 40’s the kids will drag me along to matches because they are in the ‘nothing else to worry about in life’ phase in their lives, as I was when Edinho and Steiner were the rage, and want to go every week. Then when they move away from home and I’m in my 50’s+ I expect I'll choose to go just because it will give me a break from the mrs lol.

Where did I mention I was referring to Bantam Talk?

I was referring to Leeds/Town fans generally when they’re having a football debate with City fans, in the pub, at work, etc etc..

Can you provide a link to all the ‘stats’ that you rely on to make the comment.

My subjective view, is that we struggle against the lower clubs, which we should be beating.

Don’t get me wrong, the style of play is heavy on the eye and not one that I find attractive, but given the players and circumstances, it seems to be a pragmatic and effective style.

A simple stat is that we are fourth, on a run of eight unbeaten and just nullified the supposed best team in the league at their place.

Sorry, but that is juvenile bollocks, IMO. However - let's just say I became a distant FAN rather than a close SUPPORTER.

I'll start being positive when the football is positive. Feels like a real chore at the moment and the money I'm spending week to week on this shower of a manager really doesn't fill me with joy. I'm with @Faithful Bantam@Faithful Bantam on their comments. I'd class myself as a 'die hard' probably go to 80% of the games but what I've seen over the last month or so I'm considering cutting down my games for the reset of the season. I spend a lot of time watching City and sacrifice quite a lot. To be bored stiff less after travelling the length of the country isn't on in my opinion and not fair on the fans who pay hard earned money to go watch and GB gives nothing in return. I understand some games we may have to dig in but I've seen nothing in this division to be scared of yet Bowyer is purposely restricting this side and wasting a great opportunity to win this league and let the good players we have express themselves and put teams to the sword.

So true, my Leeds mate saw a video on Twitter of City fans singing "don't you know pump it up, that Leeds will f*** it up" he went I've never seen anything so tin pot and I couldn't agree more I was so embarrassed. Leeds are a club on the up we couldn't be further from them if we tried. It would've been a cricket score if we'd have drawn them in any of the cups this year.

I’m not going to check up every individual result but looking at this top 10 and going purely off what I can remember, we lost vs Port Vale, beat Northampton, lost vs Forest Green, lost vs Plymouth, lost vs Cheltenham, lost vs Crewe, beat Exeter and won and drew vs Swindon. 10 points from 9 games.

Poor results against the better teams, some frustrating results against teams towards the bottom and obviously some very good results in between to be where we are.

This is very much how I'm feeling . As a ST holder I'll keep going to home games, whatever the results or quality of football. But my enthusiasm to go away has greatly diminished.
The Leyton Orient game really got to me. We played eight man defence against truly awful opposition - the worst defence and the poorest form team in the division at that point. We could have played for three hours and not scored. We had Connolly and Ismail on the bench and never brought them on, making like for like defensive midfield subs only. It was clear that Bowyer had settled for, and was happy with a point in a game that we could have been winning at a canter with the personnel available to us, even allowing for our injuries..
I've got time on my hands, money in my pocket and no young family commitments. But I really can't be arsed to make the away treks to watch the kind of crap we saw at Orient.
I'm not advocating sacking Bowyer - that would be stupid - and I accept that the only thing that really matters is getting promoted. I've no problem with us grinding out points at places like Swindon either - that's sensibly pragmatic. But setting up to stifle teams like Orient and Morecambe is making promotion harder for ourselves than it needs to be, in my view. We've dropped points that we were capable of getting without taking unnecessary risks, by being ridiculously ultra cautious against rank bad teams. I just hope those dropped points don't bite us on the bum at the season's end.
I live in hope that when Devitt, Donaldson and Pritchard are back that we'll see a bit more creativity from midfield and less hoofball to isolated strikers, whoever they are.

Looking back over the season. Then we have had some fairly mixed results against the current top ten.

    Swindon Win/Draw-4 points
    Forest Green Defeat-0 points
    Crewe Alex Defeat -0 points
Northampton Town Win - 3 points
Cheltenham Town Defeat - 0 points
Port Vale Defeat - 0 points
Exeter City Victory - 3 points
Plymouth Argyle Defeat - 0 points

Out of that group of results there are only two which really stand out to me. The Forest Green and Port Vale defeats at home were poor. Had we won those (and we should not have suffered defeats) then we would have been either top or second on goal difference.
I suppose it would be how City approached teams in the play offs, should it come to that.
Out of potential Play Off rivals, only the very ugly Forest Green provide a conundrum from my point of view. The others, I think that on the day, we have the capacity to get a result.

Couldn't agree more. We are making this harder work than it needs to be. You see us struggling to break down the teams above (Orient, Carlisle, Morecambe) , a week later they've conceded 3/4 against teams below us in the table. It just doesn't make sense to me? I'm never one to leave early but the Orient and Carlisle games were a first for me. Can't remember the exact minute for Orient but was quite early but Carlisle I didn't even make half time. It was groundhog day and could see exactly what was going to happen. Such a shame really as we have some good players at this level but being stifled by the manager.

Hard part of it to take is when we go with a suitable line up and get the ball down we are actually capable of playing a bit of decent football, the players at our disposal are not as bad as the football regularly suggests. This division is there for the taking for a team with the right attitude to want it.
