The only way you can keep the fairweather fans is to be successful which is what I think the present management are trying to give the football club.
If these fairweather fans can't afford £149 and take each game in as it comes that they fancy attending I don't know what more the club can do, attend 6 games from our 23 home games and they are in pocket.
They'll start attending again when they see were are going to get promoted.

How many Leeds and Town fans do you see on here giving digs? None. We're an irrelevance to them.

You need to chill out somewhat and stop getting your knickers in a twist over nothing.

I said that our home attendances are about 14,000 compared with 3,000 in 1979. FACT. Not an inference.

Is this your first season as a ST holder?

It wouldn't be good if we all agreed, but maybe a bit of devilment going on here ;), the original poster got it bang on for me.

Years of chaos at the club, much of it sorted out now.
We have an experienced manager who has given us a great first half of the season.

Its stunning that people call for a manager to be sacked at this point. Who the hell cares if we are boring, its league 2, promotion is all that matters. Some people don't seem to be able to accept we are nothing. We have to scrap our way out of this league any means necessary.

    We've had a period of injuries that have heavily influenced tactics;
    Palmer, Akpan, Donaldson, Devitt, Gibson
    Mccartan, Pritchard, Ismael, Cooke, Mellor/Henley

Our best 11 includes 5/6 of those players.

That's all first team players, and its multiple attackers. The 442 we started the season with doesn't work without Donaldson. And it doesn't work when wingers have kept picking up injuries.

Yet we still sit 4th, unbeaten in 8.

We are back to 4 at the back. Donaldson and Devitt are close to returning. Time to start being positive. Boring Bowyer in League One is better than the chaos of looking for another manager.

I might be wearing knickers, but they're not in a twist. Saturday night, beer in hand, lifes good.

All I asked was what's impressive about the numbers you'd posted, as you'd suggested. You still haven't answered, so I'm assuming you cant.

And no, I've had many season tickets since the late 80s. Not sure why that's relevant though.

So despite being served up some right shite since the 80's and being a ST holder since then your threat of not renewing is just that... a pathetic cheap shot at the club. In reality you will renew. So what is your agenda?

As for validating any numbers, I am sure , if it bothers you that much, you can google it and validate it yourself.

I don't doubt the numbers. I'm just asking why those numbers are impressive, and again you haven't explained it. I dont really give a monkey's about that though.

And no, it's not a 'threat' or a cheap shot. It's just reality and opinion. This is a public site for fans to air their opinions, is it not? Once upon a time, football was one of the most important things in my life and I'd have bought an ST most years regardless of how shit we were. Now that's not the case. I have many other commitments and demands on my time. Family, first and foremost. I also work away from home most of the week, most weeks. So I have to think carefully about whether the time and effort is worth it. It has to be at least partly enjoyable. It isnt. And if it doesnt improve I wont be back next season. I'm not posting that to be dramatic, I'm actually posting that view - as are others - to give airtime to an opinion that might be of interest to the club. Not everyone wants to sprinkle glitterdust on the shite football being served up and lap it up. 3rd and 4th division football doesnt have to be dire. Its not unreasonable to expect a level of entertainment and enjoyment.

Bravo, totally agree! I absolutely understand peoples frustration, especially when we all feel there is so much more potential. That said, what Bowyer has achieved against a quite shocking bit of luck on injuries and vs where this club ended last season, is pretty damn impressive.

I’m more than happy with our Manager and hope he hears more the voices of support for him, than the strange calls for his job.

£150 to shell out is hardly a huge commitment if we get promoted is it?

There will not be an answer to this but I'll ask it anyway.
In respect of "fairweather fans", are they more likely to be attracted by a team pushing for promotion or a team playing some nice stuff but getting beat? Surely the main attraction for a floater or whatever is the position of the team in the table (or who we've just drawn in the cup)?
Granted, if they do turn up because we are up there tablewise, it might be easier to keep them coming if we win playing exciting stuff, but I just think winning period will keep most. Anyway, moot point I suppose, can;t possibly be an answer other than opinion. It will be worth keeping an eye on attendances though if we keep in and around the promotion places.

No it isn't. But I'm not talking about the financial commitment. The commitment is time spent away from family instead of doing other things. Football isn't the only thing in life. Its not enjoyable to me or my son. Or my old man. Or the couple of mates and their kids who I go to games with. And I'm giving up time with my daughter, who isn't into football. I can justify it if going to games is enjoyable, but it isn't. It's a drag. The quality is crap and our intent to attack is negligible. It's not for me. I've had enough of us being an irrelevance and games being a chore.

Now, I can be dismissed as fairweather. Whatever. Couldn't give a monkeys. But more and more fans are thinking about whether games are worth going to. Or at least, that's what I hear. Forget making it cheap, unless theres a degree of quality and enjoyment, fans will turn off.

How do you know more and more fans are thinking this? People like to associated with success and that will have the most affect on gates.

I'm referring to the people I know well who go to City games, as well as certain comments on these and other sites. Is going down to VP enjoyable for people? The folks who I speak to, answer 'no'. And they're at similar points in their lives. Busy work commitments through the week, precious little family time at the weekend etc.

There will be plenty of others to take there place I doubt many city fans will walk away from a promotion winning side. After all we sold 14.000 after one of our worst season in history

Dont be so dismissive, not with the emergence of ifollow, especially.

I'll give you an example of what I mean.

Several times, the friendship and family group I go to games with, have sacked off going to VP and congregated at one of our houses instead to watch on ifollow. We make an afternoon and evening of it, including the wives and kids. We can all socialise together, bit of conversation all round, you can have a drink, get a bit of food on the go, if and when the games shit you can resort to half watching and you're still spending time with family.Theres generally a tea time game on afterwards to follow on and the whole thing is more of a social event and much, much more enjoyable. In fact, the best football afternoons I've had this season haven't featured going down to VP at all. The atmosphere is crap, the footballs crap and it feels a chore. Increasingly, I know how I'd rather spend my time and I dont believe we're the only ones thinking that way.
