I could also take any period in isolation, have a look at his second spell under Rahic were we never dropped below 7th in League One and get back to me with his win/lose ratio, you've been a little selective to give your arguement more credibility me thinks.

I'm not happy with our start or performances so far, but then again I wont judge him on 4 games, talk about knee jerk reaction.

Graham Alexander, if he's that good why is he still not at 5th placed Salford with all the money he's spent on players that's all we heard about during the transfer window Salford this Bolton that, maybe they think he's taken them as far as he could, and prefer a rookie to an established manager.

Had the season have carried on they would have finished above us. They absolutely mullered us the last game before lockdown.

 

Thing is Dave,your average league 2 footballer isn't clever enough,football wise,to be able to play in several different formations.Stuart needs to settle on one formation,and drill the players to play that system,and leave the opposition to worry about us.

 

Not at all as with any workforce you need you employees on side so yes "he and the players", they have to believe in themselves they are getting paid for doing their job which is playing football, obviously Stuart thought they had the ability to play the diamond are you suggesting otherwise?.

Salford appear to have very high expectations and ambitions and time will tell if theyve done the right thing , we could be bottom and mccall would still be safe as houses, its all a bit cosy and matey down at VP.

 

This is the problem signing utility players and throwing formations around like confetti at a wedding. I thought in the first few games hed looked at a system that allowed Wood and French to get forward, French in particular benefited with 2 assists to his name already. Trick is to stick with it, train the rest of the squad to fit into it or better still, actually recruit players to play that formation. I mean what the hell was Gareth Evans doing on the left hand side of a diamond, Levi Sutton, who had a very good game previously, now stuck out on the right of a diamond. Our two full backs who had been encouraged to get forward now penned inside their own half with no cover in front of them. The more you think about Monday night the more you scratch your head and think why?

 

But these jobs are role specific. You wouldn't sign Stephen Darby and stick him on the left wing. When you bring players into the club you bring them with a specific role in mind, although I would question that logic with some of our recruitment. Just because they train at football every day doesn't mean they can accommodate to any role.

 

I said similar after the game you know what the squad are capable of, although he must have thought they were capable of playing the diamond or he wouldn't have used it, possibly 4-4-2 and play it, but there will be times when it has to be changed to counter the opposition and if they cant or are not capable then it becomes difficult, but I agree up to a point certainly with this squad many are kids who have little experience and most of the rest have at best played Championship football.

 

Apart from playing Evans on his preferred side who do you think wasn't capable, Wood and french have been reasonable going forward, Clarke should be able to play within a diamond, perhaps as I replied to Old Grey Fox the younger lads might have found it difficult, but if your going to try and bring your youth through they will have to change formations at some time.
I think you going a little OTT with your Darby example who played in a position they couldn't play, the 4 in the diamond were Watt, Sutton, Clarke and Evans all classed as midfield players ?.

 

Well quite clearly by Monday night neither Evans or Sutton look comfortable in a diamond. This isn't fifa 21 or championship manager, you can't just pick players in any formation and expect it to work. How many positions are Evans and Sutton gonna have to play before they tell the manager where they actually prefer playing. Telling them where they will play and preferring where they want to play are entirely different.

Just giving another posters opinion not trying to make it confusing at all, 4 games into a new season is not IMO the time to be thinking about changing the manager, certainly not after what we've seen that changing managers have produced in the recent past, or shouldn't I bring that up to give more credibility to your argument, Grayson, Collins, Hopkin. Bowyer all turned out to be poor appointment although looking at their individual CVs at the time they were all were quite capable of turning our fortunes around.

Yes I can see your point with regards it being a little cosy at Valley Parade I have given my opinion of why that happend in my reply to brisbanbantam, we hoped McCall could get us into a play off place, we'll never know because of the season being brought to a quick end.

 

Talk of replacing McCall at this stage is ludicrous.

 

I wouldn't have a clue how to play FIFA 21 or Championship manager come to that, I said above I accept for the likes of Watt and Sutton it might have been a formation they weren't happy with but we had no width on the night to go with 4-4-2, maybe 3-5-2 would have been more suited to that starting 11.
McCall obviously thought differently, I even said that formation was not working and half time was a perfect opportunity to change it especially when Evans came off with a tightening hamstring, we got a lesson in football on the night lets hope we learn from thecexperiance.

I mean on Monday it was clear that the diamond was not working. Get to half time , Kenny should be in Stuarts ear to look at changing it.

Or is Stuart so bloody minded he won't take Kenny's advice?

I don't know but everywhere Stuart has, shall we say failed, Kenny has been at his side.

 

Ironically when I've been down to training both this time and his last spell, Kenny certainly takes his share of the training that's not having a pop at Black but as you say it seems there was only Stuart who thought things didn't need changing, I bet there was some expletives shouted at the TVs on Monday night, the wife was knocking on the wall telling me to quieten down it certainly wasn't with excitement.
