Have you spoken to Bowyer to ask why? Maybe he saw how much his confidence had taken a battering and wanted to take him out of the firing line? It happens Park- but you have no knowledge as to why he was removed....!

I'm sure time will tell but let's keep blaming the defence which he was part of. You do know that the goalkeeper can use his hands and arms they are not just for waving about like he did most of the time. Sunshine

 

No, a loss of form doesn't make a bad player but some of the excuses to defend him are ridiculous.

How can you blame the quality of the defence for his poor performances and then talk about about what a brilliant first half of the season he had. It's not like he had Van Djik and Ramos in front of him until January.

 

Because you can't keep up that level of performance up for a full season, if he could he'd be in the premier league.

Yep, but “playing crap”, doesn’t mean he is crap. De Gea was playing crap for Man Utd last season, but I don’t see them replacing him with someone else.

Come on Park lets not be silly now. Nobody ever said O'Donnell was one of the best in the country. And nobody has said he didn't make mistakes, but there again show me a keeper who doesn't make mistakes. What was the general consensus was that he had a good first half of the season to point where he was regularly rated amongst our best players. Second half of the season he struggled, but so did everyone else, Jack Payne included. Payne eventually dropped to the bench just like O'Donnell. Name me one player in last years squad who wasn't dropped at one point during the season.

There was only one or two players who came out with any credit it was a collective failure and he was part of that. Judging by the vibe round the ground last season I am surprised he gets so much support on here. I am pleased at least by the sound of it he has some proper competition this season

 

So by that analogy you don't rate any of the players from last year? Yet you seem to rate the likes of Mellor and Anderson who you're saying are just as culpable as O'Donnell. What about Eoin Doyle who was utterly abysmal last season? Don 't tell you think he'll play better with the likes of Donaldson and Vaughan because thats exactly what i am saying about O'Donnell. Give him a better back line and you'll see a more consistent keeper.

 

Well it won’t be long before we find out we seem to have better defence by common consent he will start as number one we will see if he improves on how he finished.

 

You can't blame his form post January on standard lower league inconsistency, or every other keeper in the league would have plummeted to the same depths as O'Donnell at point or another. Pure guesswork here, but I'm assuming the majority of other league 1 goalkeepers did not get replaced by their understudy due to poor performances. The only person that can be blamed for that is O'Donnell himself.

 

Theres no guarantee a new defence will help his form but it has to give you more confidence playing in front of decent back four. Only time will tell how decent.

I didn't say everything ever Jon. I was just pointing out that people where mentioning the hatred Ricc had for o'donnell they used the same sentance regarding Edin and we know what happened there..

 

It wasn't a stat to say the best keeper in the country. It was the most saves.
