the point I was trying to raise is Bradford City aren't a club who have their transfer gossip leaked, let alone in the newspapers. Only suggests that its done by the other party. An the only reason the other party would pre leak such news is to create a bidding war, which is exactly what happened here

 

Im not fussed with big name players signings. Im more interested in the quality of the player an what they can provide to the team. Off the top of my head, players brought into the club who were unknown quantities include Nakhi Wells, Josh Cullen, Tyriek Wright, Reece Burke, James Meredith, Harry Lewis, Lee Evans, Adam Reach, James Hanson. The list goes on

Big names that have flopped at this club, include, and are not limited to : James Vaughan, Aaron Mcclean, Brad Jones, Zesh Rehman, An some may also wish to include Richie Smallwood an Harry Chapman in that list

 

How does him winning trophies in Holland years after he left help us? In the same way, if Davies is poor for Crewe because he's learning and yet goes on to start for Liverpool in the future.

If you're wanting a young keeper who was well regarded at a big club, ex-Man United keeper Jacob Carney has been released by Sunderland.

If we need back up that's inexperienced and so relatively cheap, we could do worse than someone well thought of in the game.

 

The guy wanted to play near his home, you can’t fault him on that.

On one hand, shows we aren’t that big a club that can simply entice any player wanting to play in L.2, big name or not. Our crowds, ground, wage budget etc just simply aren’t enough.

On the other hand shows footballers at this level are as human as us all. You could argue Cook resigned for similar reasons, since he had options elsewhere according to reports (namely Stevenage).

It's the very definition of 2 faced he was telling us he was signing while knowing he was using our offer to negotiate a better deal somewhere else. He even came up for the medical and spoke to someone (presumably Gent or Sparks) to tell them how excited he was. That offer from Gillingham is unlikely to have just come out of thin air he will have known about it. The honest thing to do would have been to tell us he's still considering other offers he was deceitful.

He's a good player and I would have liked to see him at city but in honesty he is a bit of an injury risk. Knowing what we know now I'd call his character and motivation to sign for us into question. I'd like to think we haven't just stuck all our eggs in one basket and we move on quickly.

Also though, it's important we don't rush into a signing that would cover the same positions that we wanted with Williams just to get someone in the door. It's more important to get the right person in than any person even if that means they arrive when the season has started.

 

Agree, being honest and having integrity is important, even in football.

 

The club should not feel rushed, we need to go about our business in a professional manner, and take our time in selecting our targets. Williams was yesterday, today is another day.

Very true. Players that are settled and perhaps have young children in school may not be as keen to uproot their families and move half way across the country as say a young player who is footloose and fancy free, but there are always exceptions, Jamie Walker being one of them.

Once that article appeared in the Sun the writing was on the wall. Somebody outside VP leaked the
“deal”. Remembering the club don’t publish rumours in advance, so where else could have it originated.

Water under the bridge, leaving a sour taste , but we clearly look elsewhere.

Williams reportedly turned down Wrexham who I’m sure would’ve met his wage demands too, so that goes to show there was really only one club that he wanted to go to. With the clock ticking and no word from Gillingham, the story was leaked and the rest is history. This isn’t about not meeting the demands of the player, because they’d been agreed, so I don’t envisage any fallout between Hughes and Sparks. He’s gone so it’s time to move on.

 

It’s alright saying we don’t want his type, but as Park says it’s a very competitive market this year. If we want the better players in the division they’re likely to be in demand and that means having to compete with other clubs and be will to beat them on wages. It’s okay saying we only want players who want to be here, but the better players will make the most out of their careers and that means taking the best offer on the table. Even £500 a week makes a big difference at this level we aren’t talking the PL. if we really aren’t going to accept mediocrity then we will have to literally put our money where our mouth is. It’s certainly interesting being a City fan if nothing else.

no doubt location played a part, if the offers are even for instance then it’s no hassle as he wouldn’t have to relocate. But with any footballer I still think a financial package is the biggest draw, only when there is little in it or someone is near retirement age may other factors be more important.

 

They didn’t have to even offer more weekly wage. At best Gills only needed match our offer or be very close. The prime “ mover” would be location. He wouldn’t care if he’s playing in front of 5,000 fans every other week or up to 20,000 fans once a season if the money is of equal merit. I would if I was a professional footballer, but remember he’s already done it!
In other words I’m not giving any credence to the “They outbid us” b/s .

 

Let’s see if the club make any official statement, Parker was the one who stated they outbid us and considering he also mentioned the hotel etc. I’m guessing the club gave him the information. It doesn’t really matter in the end what’s done it done, Sparks himself named Gillingham when talking about the bigger budgets in the league, the latest club with a new flashy owner.
