Im surprised Stevenage have released Luke Norris, looks a physical player in the games ive seen him, definitely a decent option in L2 and would give cook competition, its a long old season.

Agreed decent player, but never played any further north of Northampton in his career and would depend on if Oliver was still at the club I guess.

 

Norris was linked to Notts County a week or so back. Looks like they've got their eye on someone else, 35 year old David McGoldrick is apparently in talks with Notts. He scored 22 and got 6 assist last season after only starting 29 games in L1 for Derby, who have also offered him a deal.

County fans seem to think he was supposed to sign for them last summer until Derby's embargo lifted and they signed a lot of older free agents.

 

Re: McGoldrick he was quality in L1 he didn't get his goals put on a plate in the games I saw, almost too good, NC would do well to get him to sign I'd be surprised tbh won't be short on L1 offers but I guess money talks.

 

McGoldrick would be a fantastic signing for Notts Co at this level. He should score a shed load if they manage to capture him. Lifelong County fan I believe

 

Jake Young has been told to find another club as he won't be in MH's plans next season.

 

Yes boyhood fan, believe he's said before he'd want to end his career there if possible. It was supposedly all done and dusted last summer but Derby threw daft money at a load of free agents when their embargo dropped.

 

Right decision, one of those players where i'm not sure what he actually does well bar have a decent right foot shot. Next i'd be looking at Odusina and East, Odusina as i don't think he will turn out to good enough either and in East's case, the lad needs regular game time at his age and another one that Hughes clearly didn't fancy. Sometimes signings don't work out and any in the squad that aren't fully in the mind of Hughes need moving on. With a leaner squad we can't afford to carry passengers.

 

I hope whoever signed off on the 3 year deal is looking in the mirror this morning. No need to dish out contracts on unproven players, until you've at least seen them in action, or they are proven in this league or above. Gent needs to up his game as there's a finite amount of money that needs to be spent wisely.

 

Agreed about Odusina. His strength isn't in the air and he'll be targeted all day long. Maybe he'd be better in a 3 or moving to left back / defensive midfield. Could end up back at Hartlepool but like you say, he's been nowhere near the first team and I can't see him getting a chance this season.

 

Stubbs showed there are decent signings to be had and in my opinion we are better off ditching the deadwood and getting players that Hughes actually rates. Not to say they won't be a success elsewhere but we have to be ruthless in pursuit of promotion.

I was surprised when Young went on loan to Barrow and thought it was the wrong decision at the time but clearly I was wrong about that given how poor his spell there was, so best for both parties now for him to move on. I agree about Odusina, he either needs to be moved on permanently or agree to a loan, something I believe he was offered in January but turned down. East is a tough one because I've liked what I've seen from every time he's played, but as you say, he needs to be playing regularly and that isn't likely to happen with us. Maybe if Gilliead doesn't sign he will have more of a chance, although it's probably pretty much a given that he will now that his best mate has.

 

If we're choosing between East and Gillead I'd take East all day long. I still feel either one should be back up, at best but at least East looks like a footballer, has composure and will attempt the pass rather rather turning and playing backwards or square 99 times out of 100.

 

Young & Odusina probably show why League Two clubs don't dish out 3 year deals too often.
I always felt Young was one we'd look to develop over the three years as clearly not the finished article. He must have been really bad for us to want to get rid after 12 months. Can't imagine he's on a big wage so maybe a NL team might take him.
