    Joel Dixon to come in as number 2 following his release from Bolton?

    Former Barrow keeper, from Middlesbrough, started out at Sunderland - helped Barrow achieve EFL status.

    Think we could do worse, and wouldn't be comfortable relying on Doyle (no offence) given his lack of game time.

    Not sure who, but we could do with genuine competition for Lewis.

    Probably difficult to attract anyone decent though knowing they would be playing 2nd fiddle to Lewis in the 4th tier

    We got away with it last season as Lewis was very consistent and remained injury free.

    I would have felt uncomfortable with Doyle playing, think he should concentrate on coaching now.

    Maybe try Richardson pre season and pizza cup games as alternative, never seen him play though, so not sure whether would be good enough to consider being number 2?

    I agree re Doyle's lack of game time, and also think Lewis needs a younger, capable and more hungry no 2 to keep him on his toes and also give him a bit of a break so he doesn't end up playing 50+ games again next season. If Doyle's wife is to be believed, he's been offered a 3 year playing contract which seems nonsensical to me but maybe she's got that wrong as she does have previous when it comes to posting things that aren't true.

    Surely the 3 year deal is a coaching one?. I believe they have said will be registering him as a player for next season though

    You'd think so and hope so. Like I said, she does have a history of getting hold of the wrong end of the stick so hopefully that's what's happened here.

    Play 40 games in League 2 or 20 games in League 1.
    Sometimes players have to take a view of the long game.

    All these rumours about Agyei, Stockton and Brough will probably not come to anything.

    Expect to see us signing players out of the blue that nobody has thought of

    We probably could given time and patience. Majority of fans expect instant success with experienced players.

    Let's face it, for all the talent that Crewe have unearthed, its never got them out of the bottom 2 tiers as far as I can remember?

    Different expectations at different clubs

    Theyve been doing it for decades. One of the best academies in the football league.

    All the way back to David Platt, to Robbie Savage, Danny Murphy, Dean Ashton, Nick Powell...

    Crewe have invested time and money into their academy over many years. Going back to Dario Gradi's time, Crewe had a highly regarded and well run academy and it developed a great reputation for producing quality. It's categorised as a Cat 2 and one of the few outside of the the top two leagues. It gives them the opportunity to play in the Development leagues and thus attract a better quality intake. It hasn't always benefited Crewe themselves (it's some time since they were last in the Championship but not as long as ours!) but the money it's earned has helped to keep its head above water on meagre crowds.

    We could emulate it (ours is the cheaper Cat 3) but it would take time and money and we blow hot and cold on that idea. A manager who is focused solely on the first XI performances has little incentive to see valuable resources diverted elsewhere. Ask Parky! It requires somebody else with a longer term vision to overcome that.
