That may be the case but surely he's worth more than that to us? Therefore either someone breaks the bank or he stays. We don't have to accept an offer just because that's what players have gone for before. Bearing in mind we break even we don't need to sell to keep afloat and £400k isn't going to go far in the scheme of things.

For sure he's worth more than that to us. Unfortunately, at this level its rarely a case of "pay this or he stays" because of dreams of playing higher and agents promising the world to lads lower down the pyramid. Lewis has outperformed all expectations, fingers crossed that Lewis can read scenarios and might see its better to stay. However, looking at L1 Barnsley should be a top 7 side on paper. Their keeper is leaving so Lewis will be number 1, his agent and Barnsley could be on the phone telling him that this time next year he has a shot of being a Championship goalie, if he moves now.

If I was City, today I'd have triggered his 1 year extension meaning he has a minimum two years to buy out and you can say to Lewis and his agent that if he gives one more year to us, he either gets promoted and is worth a hell of a lot more next June. Or we stay down and agree he can leave for a set price.

I thought Barnsley were rumoured to be skint?? If so there’s no way they’ll be looking to pay a fee for a keeper, no matter how small that fee is

I take that to mean that Barnsley may have enquired about Lewis and have been told to clear off.

It means Barnsley are clearly interested in a quality keeper. If their keeper leaves as expected i would highly expect lewis to be become a Barnsley player after some negotiation with Ryan Sparks and the Barnsley owners.

They both pretty much said the same thing. Suggested there is interest but poured cold water on how far down the line it is.

Plot twist - he signs for Barnsley, we make a few quid but the deal includes a season long loan back at City.

Barnsley have previous for these deals. They did it with George Miller a few years ago.

Think he’s off… typical of city to go weak at the knees when the wallet comes out. I would have liked us to hold firm, we won’t it’s against our nature of monetising anything and everything these days (to save our proud custodian dipping his hands in his pockets)

I worry around the disruption this will cause, given how I think it will be a difficult season play off hangover, regardless of MH and the clubs positive PR spin.

The But for me tells me they cant meet our asking price.

so much for “click bait crap”

i’m guessing they came in with a bad offer. Im inferring that from “a degree of accuracy”

Only if Lewis himself wants to go! He might be more than happy to stay here.

I only think they will let Lewis go if a) its a good deal for the club and b) Lewis really wants to go. If that is the case then realisation needs to set in - we are League 2.

If there is one area I trust City to find a suitable replacement then it is goalkeeper. We have a pretty terrific record with keepers over the years. Now if Cook was to leave, then we have a problem....!

Haven't been on BT much since the end of the season due to work but just catching up with what has happened since, only my opinion but the squad as it stands is not promotion material. I know still some time before the season starts but we are lacking in some key areas - and if Lewis goes we will be a step further back (he is not only a good keeper but a great character to have in the dressing room).
Hope the club have a few more positives yet to happen

He could well be. But the general rule of thumb is if a club from a higher division comes in with a good offer then the player more often than not moves to pastures new. We aren't a unique football club, at the end of the day we are still a club in the lowest division of professional football. And by moving to a higher club it gives you an opportunity to play with a better standard of player, giving you more of a chance to climb higher still and higher salary that goes with it.

Exactly in line with what Raynor said.

The interest is there, what's not there is any kind of deal or acceptable offer.

I seriously doubt Barnsley can afford to buy him when he's got 2 years left.

Been on the Barnsley forum, and half of them are laughing off their financial issues, the other half are making jokes about how the spending would 'be above board' lol

At this moment, I can't see this move going through.
