Summer 2023 Transfer Rumours

Apparently Sheff Weds have already spoken to Bradley, rumour is he wants to move back up north. Bradley is a great defender for L1 level if he stays fit, he's managed 34 starts over the last 2 seasons.

 

Taylor will probably have to drop a division at this point. Not really that prolific this season, struggled to make an impact in a poor Oxford side. Similar at Vale from Jan and ended up benched for the last 3 or 4 of the season.

Jodi Jones is one who i reckon a lot of L2 clubs might have a look at. He's been released by Oxford too, on loan at Notts Co to get game time after a horrific last few years with ligament injuries. Finally back fit but couldn't get in the Oxford side, went on loan to Notts at the end of the Jan window and just scored a huge goal for them last weekend. County boss has confirmed they want him next year but if they don't go up, I reckon a fair few might take a look. But 5 years of cruciate ligament injuries on both legs will also put a lot off.

 

These lads would still command a pretty hefty salary. Wrexham springs to mind

 

They have a Rob&Ryan podcast do they Wrexham fans and the bar they have set themselves for signings seems ridiculous for L2. They are so confident they'll sign like top end L1 or Championship released players without any worry this summer. Some names they want is Regan Poole, leaving Lincoln in the wanting a chance at the Championship. Alfie May from Cheltenham, just scored 20 in L1. Cole Stockton, getting linked with Champ clubs but they think they have a chance. Lee Gregory, Billy Sharp, Maxwell the Blackpool goalie and Mendes Gomes who was at Morecambe when they went up, were all names they threw out.

Problem when you bring in Ben Foster type, the bar doesn't really ever go back down for expectations.

 

Wrexham have the pulling power of the owners but I'm not sure if they or their fans understand the wages that championship players are/were on. That's not to say they won't bring high profile targets in, I'm sure they'll have the best squad in league 2 next season. But the wages the likes of Sharp and Gregory will be on will be a lot higher to than league 2.
And they do need to strengthen, take Mullin and the likes of Lee out and they ain't owt special.

 

Alex Cairns released by Fleetwood - loaned at Salford. Always liked him as a keeper. Solid option if Lewis was sold.

Danny Johnson released by Mansfield. 15 in 30 last season for Walsall on loan. Decent returns, could be worth a punt as a Forward option.

 

My prediction....

OFFERED DEALS - Doyle, Ridehalgh, Clayton, Gilliead and Cook.
RELEASED - Hendrie, Threlkeld, Scales, Wood, Eisa.

OFFER PERMANENT - Critchlow, Banks
SENT BACK - Bola, Periera, Nevers, Costelleo

TRY TO OFFLOAD/LOAN OUT - Cousin-Dawson, Foulds, Odusina, East, Young

REMAIN - Lewis, Halliday, Stubbs, Platt, Kelly, Smallwood, Osadebe, Chapman, Walker, Derbyshire, Oliver.

Not saying I agree with the above completely but think thats where it could head.

 

Wouldn't disagree with most of that. The one player I would add to the remain list is Ryan East. He hasn't had a great deal of game time this season, but whenever he has played he seems a tidy player to me, quite calm and looks to get the ball forward.

 

I may be wrong but isn’t Hendrie under contract until 2024?

Critchlow I’m sure Huddersfield have an option to extend his deal.

 

Yes Town do have an option to extend, but will they take it? Even if they do, they may be open to another loan to City especially if we manage to get to League One. Less likely if we're still in League Two.

 

Ahhh well Hendrie will be offloaded you would think then.

Yes they do, not sure they will now they stayed in the Championship.

 

Yeh, I just think given his age he needs game time and hopefully with 1 or 2 additions we strengthen. That sees him move further down pecking order - of course Gilliead and Clayton may not sign up so may well be needed.

 

Johnson has a great record but never seems to stay around anywhere for very long. I just worry about his attitude as I can't understand why he does well but still shifted on 12 months later.

 

Johnson too small to play up front on his own.
If MH goes with 4-2-3-1 next season, the Centre Forward has to have some physicality.

Cambridge released a few good players that stormed league 2 a couple of seasons ago. Sam Smith and Harvey Knibbs both decent players and good ages. Joe Ironside another one of the Middlesbrough lads that Gent will probably be fully aware of.

 

I read that Smith got 7 in the last 10 games to keep them up. Strange that they'd be releasing someone with 14 goals for the season, who has just played a key part in their survival. But what do I know.

 

Both him and Knibbs are 25 so a great age to progress or sell on. Suspect Cambridge are either financially not right or going down a different path. Another decent player is Jevani Brown 14 this season released by Exeter, but comes with lots of baggage as recently charged with assault.
