We're missing a player like Vernam. Maybe Hughes thought Eisa could fill that role?

The player who can play most similarly to Vernam at the moment seems to be Harratt. Chapman has some guile but hasn't shown loads of pace yet. Young has less guile but is direct.

Pereira is totally different to what we have, yes he is not the flying Kyle Reid type winger, but going on what we saw of him last season, he has that ability to unlock defences

Isn't it refreshing going into the last two days of the window feeling confident that any late additions we make are more than likely going to add quality to the squad rather than be last minute panic buys to make up the numbers. The way Hughes was talking last night he sounded very confident that deals are either already done or are very close to being done, but I get the feeling that if for whatever reason they don't come off, he won't just settle for any old shite at 10.59pm like we have done in the past just to make a signing, any signing.

We have those types though in Banks, Chapman, Walker. You need variety. Do we have a single pacy and direct winger in the squad?

I’d like periera & pacy winger if it’s not to much to ask haha! Dion can unlock defences with his good footwork and skill but like you say I think we need someone who can take us up the pitch quickly and beat a man

Remember all through the summer , deals were done and the announcements were delayed for promotional reasons. MH talking like he was yesterday says it’s exactly the same at the closure of the window. The deals are done already imho. I think , after talking down expectations over the weekends Dion could be one of them. “ We beat off multiple competition for his signature” perhaps?

Wouldn't say excellent, he's been very good but has still had a few wobbles, thinking mainly Hartlepool in the first half when he went wondering off two or three times and left Smallwood alone, similar off moment at Colchester. As i say, i think he's been very good there just maybe inexperience of the discipline needed to play there or sharpness.

My hit and miss comment was more around Gillys fitness. Missed pretty much all pre season and the first game with the odd muscle injury, another one now with him missing this weekend also. If the only other options there are East and Sutton and it doesnt look like either float his boat at the minute, he might want another body in the middle.

Agree! And to be honest, where has it got us? What’s Dion going to do - create a slide rule pass through the middle, for Cook or Oliver, with their back to goal, to lay off to no one? We want a player who can go past a fullback, and swing it in, cut it back to a forward. Granted, Dion could play said pass to Banks or Halliday, but for that to happen, he’d be playing in the centre, and I just don’t see him being effective there. I’ve said it before, Banks and Dion are playing in the same position. I think Banks was signed because we couldn’t get Dion. Of course, maybe he’s now available, and MH has to decide if he wants to double up on the right wing position. I wouldn’t drop Banks with the form he’s in right now, for a player who hasn’t started a game all season.

As recent as Monday, Nathan Jones was asked about Pereira and two others (as apparently the fans want these three, particularly Dion, in the squad).

    Interestingly he didn't rule out L2 as we can see from the following statement;

"I understand fans will say Pereira should play, he should do this and he should do that, or Thorpey has done brilliantly, but we have a strong squad now.

“In League Two they would be playing, Pereira would play, Thorpe would get more exposure. League One, they would be closer"

He also implied that wherever they went (if they go) he'd be wanting 15 to 20 games for them. That's not a guarantee in L1 - particularly for a player like Pereira, who's best run of matches has been with us!! And that's, what, four on the trot?

    https://www.lutontoday.co.uk/sport/football/luton-town/luton-boss-will-decide-whether-to-loan-trio-out-even-if-town-fans-want-to-see-them-given-a-chance-for-the-hatters-3822893

I'd have him. I get the comments that he's similar to one of two others. But he seems to have improved over the close season and has an immediate connection with this club - after all he said (although it was in June) he'd like to come back.

Nice though, that for once, we aren't desperate for players.

I think Pereira is above the level of what we've currently got. Banks will probably have a better career - but Pereira, ironically given his record, is more ready for a League 2 dog fight.

If you recall he's quite physical and doesn't let himself be pushed around.

One other thing a loan move just until Christmas would probably suit all parties. I'm not convinced we can have him, Walker, Banks, Chapman - with one of them having to bench warm. Although any three of those four is fine by me!!!

Luton paper put another bit out this morning, sounding like Periera will go.... "In order to have space in the 25-man squad allowed in the Championship, Jones will need to move a number of his players out on loan, with Admiral Muskwe, Dion Pereira and Elliot Thorpe all candidates to depart".

Luton want one more in and are pretty much at their 25 man squad limit, as Periera is 23 they need to register him. Looking at their squad, if they want one more in then two of the three players listed will have to go. Muskwe is expected to join Fleetwood today on loan leaving one of Periera or Thorpe. However, Thorpe has already been used in the champ this season, so looks more likely he's in Jones' plans for the moment and you can still only play for two clubs in the same season, if Thorpe left it would have to be for the season but Periera they can loan till Jan and have another look.

I think banks is a great player. Shot on him. Beats players and does the really boring non Hollywood stuff really well. He will have a great career. Dion is a bit cheeky and likes it here so why not let him come here and either get a recall to Luton or in the shop window?!?!! We are in a good place at the moment.

100%. The signing of Oliver looks a strange one to me - I actually think he has something, but he's clearly a target man. Playing with little width, crosses from deep and no one playing off him as a runner seems bonkers to me. Get a proper winger in and have him dominate the penalty box. It'll be an important weapon at home against teams who defend deep.

You could play Oliver with Pereira playing just behind him. In L2 Dion is skilled enough to play that role.

I'm not ruling out Oliver yet. I thought he did fine when he came on during the Crewe game and actually the only attacker who looked as though he knew his role.

I like Pereira he’s a exciting player to watch but he has very little end product. 1 goal 1 assist last season both young and Bsnks will score and create a lot more than him

A decent direct option though because from what I see we only have Young and Banks who will have a go at full backs. Rest like to play their little sideways or backward passes.
