Mark likes rotation and we certainly have the squad for that. The 3 names you mention are exciting and they are by no means the only attackers we have. Think we may see different formations throughout the season which will certainly make it difficult for other teams to plan their tactics.

Waaay too early to start giving Rupp any sort of a pass. There isn’t anything conclusive, or even convincing to suggest that what we’ve done in terms of our business is anything to do with Rupp ‘investing’.

 

He’s made a total feck up of the last 5 years I agree, But he’s done what he can this year to rectify things to an extent. Smallwood Chapman an Walker are all League 1 players at worst, an they’l all be on League One Level wages

There is. Theyve sanctioned three year contracts. We are planning beyond one year stop-gap contracts. Bigger financial commitments.

As I say, I’m very pleased with our approach, and much of this is guesswork. But…

R’OD out and Lewis in. Likely negligible extra cost
Doyle replaces the GK coach we had. Probably little extra cost, and probably none at all if Hornby leaves.
Hendrie was here anyway.
Sutton was here anyway.
Platt - will he be on more than Paudie? I’ll bet he’s not.
Crichlow on loan - could be very little wage contribution.
Odusina in for a fee - but no reason to think the fee is more than we got for Watt. And wage wise, we never replaced Canavan.
Walker was here anyway, although we may now be paying more than when he was on loan.
Smallwood in - but Evans was apparently on 4K per week! Smallwood may not be on much more and….
I’ll bet East is on less than Cooke, given we signed Cooke in L1.
Watt’s wage goes into the mix too.
Chapman instead of Vernam. Will there be much difference in wages?
Osadebe and Young in - but Robinson, Elliot, Delfounso and Lavery have gone out.
Harratt on loan, but Perreira and Daly aren’t here.

Plus we received a wedge for that kid that went to Brighton. And 14k ST sales and an apparently improving level of commercial revenue.

I’m absolutely NOT knocking what we’ve done this summer; my earlier post sets out how pleased I am. I’m just saying there’s no reason at this point to think Rupp has put anything into the budget this summer, or to think that our business is anything other than self funded.

I think most of the next moves will be loans going out, finalised by a new incoming RB?

 

Callum Johnson RB from Pompey was mentioned, I’d like one in before Spain then finalise loans afterwards and outgoings. Ideally anyway but it’s not always so simple.

FWIW i dont think the budget was ever holding us back. We’ve made poor decision at the top all through the business. Adams was the wrong fit and his recruitment was poor.

our budget last year was sufficient to go up and our failures were down to poor decision making and recruitment for me. If you get it right in summer you shouldn’t need to panic buy in January to try get the season back on track.

This summer we’ve brought in Gent and approached the window much differently. We’ve worked early. We’ve recruited with what seems like a plan, targeting players within the 20-25 year old range mostly, and we’ve sanctioned mostly two year deals, with some three.

We’re creating stability around the club. We’re making the budget work better. Some of the signings will not work out, but we’re in a position where we’ve lost, arguably, our three best players, yet we’ve still kept the majority of the fanbase onside due to the structure with which we seen to be working and the calibre of signings like Walker, Chapman and Smallwood.

Just as everyone from Rupp downwards deserved lambasting for years of recent misery, they also deserve credit, all the way up to Rupp, for signing off and implementing the new recruitment plan. There’s no dead end journeymen signing at the last minute because they are the only corpse available - ala last year.

 

He says that he is going to training tomorrow, so thats what i thought thats what the admin was referencing.

 

We look like we've got our shit together. No argument there. I just don't see any reason to give credit to Rupp.... yet.

Anyhow, things are finally looking up.

Our recruitment this season has been decent, the best I can remember in league 2, I'm trying not to get too excited mainly because I've been a city fan for along time and I know how this usually pans out .
