Ridalgh and Vernam on the left were a very good attacking option for us last season. They seemed to gel and be able to read each other. Would be happy to keep them in all honesty.

Agree on this. At this point, we lack experience in the defensive section (assuming Songo’o moves upfield) and Ridehalgh offers a career nouse (300+ games), which may be useful in a 'youthful' team.

The other noteworthy point, under Hughes, when POC was suspended, Hughes made Ridehalgh captain v Scunthorpe. A potential indicator of the mindset of Hughes?

Very surprised at these comments on Ridehalgh - he’s been an excellent LB for me, and Foulds only really played when Ridehalgh was injured.

For me Ridehalgh would have been a firm candidate for player of the season had he played a few more games.

Comment of the day for me. Foulds is hardly going to play well when he can't get in the team because Ridehalgh is fit is he? For me both are meh (comparing to Meredith) and I'd get better if available for right money.

For me, it's unrealistic to expect to have strength in every position on the pitch in league 2. Come kick off at the end of July, there'll be areas where we think we should strengthen. If Ridealgh is still here, left back for me isn't one of them.

Foulds did play well and is more than adequate backup - I like him and was impressed when he played. Still, Ridehalgh is very good at this level and I am not sure there is much better out there - he defends well, gets forward well and puts over a great cross.

With both Ridehalgh and Foulds in the building, I feel the left back position is the least of our worries.

Im surprised at comments too. Folk want promotion but are ok to settle for mediocrity at the same time.

Hes not a bad player but if we want to win the league we need better imo.

Ridehalgh is a steady full. Not great, not poor. Lacking in pace but generally compensates well through his experience. Decent delivery from the left flank. I wouldn't be in a rush to replace him, but if he goes then I think he's very much replaceable.

Full backs need pace these days to be able to get up and down.

One of the reasons we lacked in the goal scoring department was because our full backs are currently not capable enough of getting up and down the flanks.

No point in being able to run like Linford Christie if you can’t cross the ball from wide positions Fordy.

And at the other side, Hendrie has been decent enough but if we do have aspirations of promotion, we need a better first choice imo. Might be putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with 5 here, but I started to wonder during yesterday's play off final if Grimsby might have made an approach for him, and he's been waiting to see what league they were going to be in before making a decision. I'm basing this on nothing more than the fact he's played for them before, and that he might think he stands more of a chance of regular game time with them than he would do with us.

Cue announcement in the next half an hour that he's re-signed with us :joy:

Never any middle ground for City fans. During the season everyone is pants and need to be got shot of at the first opportunity. During the summer they're desperate for these same players to sign up again.

Better positional sense makes up for reduced pace, whereas crossing, especially whipped, is a skill L2 full backs dont have. To find one with pace and the ability to whip in a cross won’t be plying his trade in L2 or even L1!

Don’t mistake a “ lumped” cross, Foulds/ Hendrie style for a whipped one. So better positional sense other than pace any day of the week for me.

I wouldn’t describe him as mediocre. On the other hand I don’t have an extensive knowledge of lower league left backs so not sure who else is out there.
Someone mentioned Greg Leigh but I’m not convinced he would be an upgrade!!

You're not keeping up with the modern game.

Like buying a new car without a digital dashboard.

The full backs in the modern game are vital at creating chances but you need them to have pace to get back when require but be able to play high up the pitch also.

Wrong analogy Fordy, I have a Electric Car that currently costs me 1.5p a mile and the “ tank” is full when I get up in the morning to give me another 240 miles. Better luck next time;)
