Anything less than promotion is a failure and I'd imagine everyone inside the club shares that mindset.

 

Derek Adams has stated that in one of his earlier interviews promotion is his aim.

 

It has to be this season with the momentum built up both on and off the field this summer to carry on

 

I can imagine how the conversation goes in the park household at tea time.

Mrs park: "It's lamb hotpot dear".

Park: "Yes I know. Its my favourite".

Let’s be honest overall our signings have been poor.

Let’s hope we can make them a team and a unit because these signings in the main are nothing to write home about.

 

Its easy to make throwaway comments like its a midtable squad but what if the other 23 are midtable or bottom end squads?

Is there anybody to fear? No. Look at the shite Adams took up last year. Cambridge and Cheltenham too. How many marquee signings?

Im happy with our preperation, happy enough with the squad, delighted with our managerial appointment.

I think everything points to a promotion push. Salford, Tranmere and Bristol are the only 3 whose squads look promotion worthy and should be up there.

Also seen a few mention Port Vale and Walsall. I think we are equipped for the top 3.

 

It's such a shame pre season is only about fitness. What a wasted opportunity, we could have been using those games to build some real team spirit and belief in the squad. Oh well...

 

If this is a mid table squad someone is gonna have to convince me that half of what is a poor division have a better squad than us.

 

I wonder if the Morecombe fans said the same at the start of last season.
It only seems to be you claiming they are poor signings, didn't you say you'd judge them after 10 games has that gone out of the window now.

 

It's literally impossible to say.

The division is wide open every single year to such an extent that the odd stand out season from a player (Mullin, Doyle etc) gives you a great chance.

Failing that it's work rate and organisation alongside the correct manager and imo we have at least 1 of those in the building with hopefully the second to emerge within the squad over next 9 months or so.

 

I’d say tranmere look pretty strong and some of their signings look decent. Salford should be there abouts but apart from them two I’d say we’ve a decent chance.

Yes. He has doubled down like he has about pre season been purely about fitness.

 

Salford won't be able to get the best out of Conor McAleny this season, he thrived in an Oldham side that were the second top scorers last season, they created a lot of chances but also conceded the most goals in the league. Salford will be a lot more cagey than Oldham were. I can see Salford starting really well and then fading as the season goes on as teams work out their tactics.

I think Bristol Rovers will be hampered by off field issues, the chaos that follows Joey Barton around should keep them busy for a while.

I fancy Newport to win the league this year, I think Flynn is a good manager, I think all the teams that finished in the playoffs last time will do well this year.

Bar our young players nearly every player we have has played at a higher level albeit with varied results.and there is a point that there isn't much between a lot of teams in this division. I'm not saying we are guaranteed automatic promotion with this squad but to be quoted as mid table in my opinion means there are at least 8 or 9 better squads in this division than the one we have. And I aint seeing that, I just see a lot of average league 2 teams.

 

Didn't Newport have a few loans who they won't have this coming season, or have they acquired other loans for the coming season.

 

That's exactly my point though, we're all pretty much of a muchness and it'll be very difficult to predict exactly where all the teams should finish.

In the PL for instance we can all have a decent stab at the top 4 and someone like a Southampton for instance won't be anywhere near. In league 2, as Morecambe and Cambridge proved it's a lot more difficult to predict.

 

Very true, most of the lower leagues are a lottery due to high player turnover, which is why bookies odds are also often quite wide compared to the PL. Fordy seems to have a good idea where we’re finishing though, maybe he can put his expert tips on here so we can all win a few quid.

 

If you are being honest please can you clarify this sweeping statement?

 

You do understand the pressures at Morecambe is totally different to those at Bradford City.

We are a bigger club hence why their ex manager jumped ship.
