I got what you were saying. Using your own analogy, if we signed 1 Andrew Davies instead of 2 Andrew O’Connors and Davies got his ‘annual’ long-term injury, so we were left with playing Staunton, FC-D or Sikora instead, would you still be happy with quality over quantity?

Honestly, as a club it feels like we really need to wind our necks in.

It feels like we're this braggadocios entity claiming this, that and the other before it's actually materialised. It's all a bit amateur.

Adams was rumoured for a long time before he actually joined us - and that really saved Sparks' bacon, but it would have been a disaster if we'd missed out on him given we'd missed out on other good managers as well.

Now it feels we're doing the same with players, putting out these strong rumours and hints all the time. Whether the Cole Stockton thing was just fans running with a rumour and not really knowing anything about the situation I've no idea, but it's come from somewhere and Sparks seems to be posting coy little gifs all the time on Twitter about waiting for this or that.

I'd rather the CEO of this football club wasn't acting like an overexcited teenager stirring it with regards the rumour mill - even if this is all smoke and mirrors, sleight of hand and misdirection stuff, I'm not really enjoying it. I don't want to read 'wait for the klaxon this weekend' if there isn't a new player coming in. It's unprofessional.

Wait until the player (or manager, as it were) has actually signed on the dotted line and THEN tease the signing if you want to - but I posted to @wetherbywhaler at the time Adams signed that I didn't like the way it was handled, and it feels like we're continuing in the same vein.

Is it an attempt to drum up interest and sell more season tickets? Because I give us a 0.00001 % chance of selling an extra season ticket based on the possibility of signing players like Cole Stockton or Yan Songo'o. You have to be pretty clued in to League Two football to have any idea about those lads, anyone who may or may not buy a season ticket isn't going to have heard of them or care much for players from Morecambe.

It certainly feels like there has been a bit of overhype this week. I'm not against a bit of teasing to build anticipation but like you say, the timing of it has to be right. Telling everyone it's going to be a very busy week and posting a picture of pen and ink and then announcing 3 contract extensions of squad players that were probably finalised weeks ago and pictures of the new dug outs that were leaked last week is just a bit anticlimactic.

Fans being desperate for news on transfers and rumours is nothing new. My dad said there used to be premium phone numbers you could call to listen to rumours. He never did or so he claimed…. probably dialling other premium numbers instead LOL

How can they be correct if there is no substance? As he never gives names because he’s bound to the source, how do you know he was right?

As I said yesterday we’ll get something everyday and a lot of it will be minor news as it was today, with the odd signing to show the club are ‘busy’ to build hype. Trouble is fans don’t care out commercial deals and seats they want signings to give them hope of a well balanced side that won’t end 15th in the 4th division.

 

Kind of agree, but our fans definitely care about commercial deals too... not totally sure why, but it's a big deal on this forum who sells the pop and crisps. I've read about it enough to know that's the case!

Hornby kept 1 clean sheet in those 7 games, conceding a total of 10 goals. He was very poor against Carlisle and didn’t do himself any favours against Port Vale.

I just don’t agree with those that claim Hornby was unfairly dropped. He didn’t exactly “own” the jersey

 

But I thought you said you wanted quality over quantity? Surely we should be interested in solid players for one position rather than a “utility” player that can ‘cover’ many positions?

 

Haha I mean more in terms of building hype to sell tickets, as nice as they look the new seats won’t be making much of a difference to ticket sales or a few carling pumps. But it makes the club look busy...

 

How do you know he isnt a solid right back or solid centre mid? You could argue a very solid utility man.

Yes. Always the free transfer or loan market if the injury is bad. Not ideal but cant be making transfers on what ifs. A possibility but where does it end...

 

Oh I’d forgotten about those! I used to ring up very high telephone bills for my parents to pay, listening to those premium lines! My old man used to go nuts.

I also spent a fair bit of money listening to the Bradford one too.
