Sacking someone so soon after a contract extension doesn't show balls to me, it's shows someone cocked up big style with his first big decision.

I really wish people would stop the Ryan Sparks bashing, let’s judge him now on real decisions that need to be made in recruiting a new manager and turning this club around.
It was a bad decision to give Mcall the job back in February, the point of giving him an extension was to try and galvanise the club but it appears to have backfired. We need to learn from past mistakes and if this club has any ambition use it as a stepping stone to achieve better things.

Would love to see Gary Jones here sorting these players out.

    That's the entire point.

No experience = no history to learn from.

Learning by proxy isn't the same.

Key lessons: switching managerial styles doesn't work. Going back to previous managers hasn't worked.

Two massive lessons. So what are they chances we avoid repeating those two huge and obvious errors given we're supposedly learning lessons while swapping CEO every second season?

I agree. It bleedin obvious where we have fallen down since PP left. I am sure Ryan will get that side sorted.

Now is the time to set a solid foundation for the future.

So the club back the manager by extending his contract, despite the poor results. Fast forward 3 weeks poor results continue. The they sack him.

And some think this club is being well ran.

    Something doesn't add here.
    I smell a rat.. a smokescreen.

A smokescreen for what? Just think it’s a nice way to pay him off. Golden handshake if you like.

How do you know that was Ryans decision. It has Rhodes all over it for me and if little extra money was involved , small increase spread over a longer period , then i can understand it being done as a jolt to the squad to buck up there ideas, as the manager is going to be here long term. That did not work, They now know that the new man will be, he wont be mates with any of them and they are now playing for there future in profesional football. I can not see many of this squad being offered work elsewhere . Akpan - Anderson are prime examples , both sat at home unemployed . More footballers will finish up like this because of the salary cap. You dont have to be the worlds best footballer to play in the lower leagues but you do have to apply yourself properly. This current squad , irrespective of injuries , size or ability , should be doing better and that is down to them .
Poor team selection or formation, does not make you miss headers or open goals or leave your opposing man completely unmarked. This squad of players also have a lot to answer for.

Who employed McCall for a 3rd time?

Let's have it right.... he's as much to blame for this bloody mess as are the players!

Er, because it came from the mouth of Ryan Sparks who happens to be the new CEO. Rhodes may or may not have had a say in it, but that means little as Sparks being the CEO made the call. And now looks daft for giving a contract extension. Sparks is his own man and big enough to make decisions, he will live and die by these decisions. If we go down he will carry the can for being the CEO that took us down. This current squad never stood a chance due to a penny pinching attitude behind the scenes and an inabilty to listen to experienced voices telling Rhodes and Rupp to build an infrastructure to give a manager a fighting chance. That said McCall didn't help himself with strange recruitment and an insistence on changing things every week, something i know for a fact bugged the players as they were constantly left wondering what their roles were from week to week.

I'm sad to Stuart go but for personally selfish reasons as i love the bloke, but managerial wise i'm sure he'd have taken us down.

What's the impact on salary cap if we cancel. Some contracts in January - I'm assuming the amount paid out to cancel the contract is added on to whatever we've already paid for the season and therefore we just pay a similar amount but no longer have a player (fully appreciate this may not be a bad thing tho!)

@Dennis@Dennis you're usually good on these things.

Maybe we can mutually cancel some contracts if the player can get another position elsewhere on longer terms than the 6 months they have left with us?

@Frank Castle@Frank Castle gave a few details earlier that showed it might not have been as bad as some think.

Apparently Stuart agreed to the same compensation he would have got in the next 6 months but spread out over 18 so no additional cost

I had mooted the idea that might be the case IF we were sensible, but I had no information to suggest it was true.

    A glorified vote of confidence.

Ryan likes to talk the talk, he'd better start turning this ship around by walking the walk. The honeymoon period is over.

I am not sad to see him go. He is too close to the club and always has been. Every defeat hurt him , as much as it hurt the fans. Hopefully a new man will show this squad exactly where they stand.
I have not seen a comment from Mr Sparks saying the contract decision , was his alone , i may have missed it.
I just dont believe it was his and his alone . Its the sort of thing Julian has been doing , since he started running the club.

Just to clarify, the extension given to put the club in a better financial position.

The contract was extended by a further year, but the total monies paid to McCall stayed the same. To put it simply, he was being paid less over a longer period of time. This was done in order to free up a little bit of money for recruitment wages in January.

This is very similar to what David Wetherall did when he was here.

Why did we need to free any up if we were already so much under the cap. I’m guessing this money will now have to be spent on bringing someone new in. If we’re going for someone half decent then I’d expect we will be paying them more or similar to what McCall was on.
