His contract was extended by a year but his salary was spread out more, meaning the club were no worse off financially. McCall took a pay cut essentially.

I think you'll find they have to advertise and interview at least one BAME candidate

But you know deep down they won’t.Tomorrow in the T & A they will all spout the usual bullshit about McCall being a great guy and being behind him and giving their all for the club. All this whilst performing week in week out like they have never seen a football before. It happens at all clubs when the manager goes.Players win matches-Managers lose matches.

If this is correct then it was a very clever move. It sends a message of stability, whilst not impacting financially on the Club if results don't improve and the manager has to go, as has now happened.

If anyone got Bowyer sacked it was the fans who started a McCall in campaign about this time last year.

Given there's a salary cap which I think means we will spend less on wages going forwards that we have done in the last few seasons then we should be able to invest more in scouting/conditioning/other backroom areas.

With a bit of thought we could show we have a bit of a plan going forwards. Ryan has the opportunity to show some leadership here and put things in the right direction.

Some of this team need shipping out as soon as possible, they have hidden behind every excuse going and that will not be quite as easy when fans are back in the ground and, hopefully, a new manager giving them some 'home truths'

I think it needs to be an experienced Manager. Get this wrong and we're out of the football league. We need a safe selection. Being radical can wait for another day.

I really wish people would stop the Ryan Sparks bashing, let’s judge him now on real decisions that need to be made in recruiting a new manager and turning this club around.
It was a bad decision to give Mcall the job back in February, the point of giving him an extension was to try and galvanise the club but it appears to have backfired. We need to learn from past mistakes and if this club has any ambition use it as a stepping stone to achieve better things.

Pleased he’s gone, more for him because he didn’t deserve to lose the love fans had for him.

It’s essential that the next manager has experience of bringing in players, with little or no money to spend and setting up teams to defend as well as attack. When dealing with dummies it’s essential the message is kept to words of one syllable. Stuart over complicated things by changing formations too many times. Keep it simple.

He says 'chip ball' which sounds like 'sh!t ball' about 1,000 times per game.

He seems to think any ball that leaves the ground is a chip.

Hard to know what the right route is, because there are so many that don't look right for us right now.

Eliminate any long ball/direct ball merchants, including Parkinson and the Cowley's. That isn't going to work with this lot. Not a target man among them, not a hard man in midfield anywhere in sight. Absolutely out of the question.

Eliminate 'long term' appointments because for goodness sake, we are fighting for survival in the football league. We don't have two-three seasons to wait.

Eliminate inexperienced appointments because THIS IS NOT THE TIME.

But at the same time, fans will want to eliminate bang average managers who are considered 'safe', as it hasn't worked with Grayson or Bowyer.

Of all of the candidates listed by the bookies, of all the managers that look like they might make a much-needed immediate impact, there are only two that stand out to me: Paul Heckingbottom, given his success as caretaker of Barnsley followed by good success as permanent manager, and Ryan Lowe, who has quickly achieved success in every role he's had, make any sense.

Lowe plays virtually the same style and formation as McCall has done this season, although obviously McCall flip-flopped quite a bit. Heckingbottom plays a good old high press, which when done effectively helps less able but physically fit players become difficult to beat.

I have serious doubts that our forwards would be able to play a high pressing game, as they're either lazy (Guthrie), ancient (Donaldson), or generally physically inferior (Clarke, Samuels, Mottley-Henry), so we could wreck Heckingbottom's career, just like we could theoretically wreck someone like Flynn's career.

For me, it absolutely has to be Ryan Lowe. In my heart of hearts, I know it can't be Woodgate, nobody is going to make that appointment unless they're star-struck, with the exception of maybe Edin Rahic. I don't think Heckingbottom would come, there's no reason for him to do so. Lowe has worked with very badly run clubs before, on a shoestring, and ticks all the boxes, but I would be at all surprised if it was a middling appointment like Hurst. That would be acceptable to me.

I'm not sure what style of play would suit this lot.

    Possession football? Nope.
    High energy pressing? Nope.
    Counter attacking? Nope.

Part of what we need to look for is an ability to find players quickly that suit their style of football. That's almost priority number 1 because if we're trying to fit a style to the players we've been left its going to be an impossible task.

Never to return to us again as a manager hopefully! Clearly not good enough! Stop with this loving, and let's get a manager who knows what he's doing and can bring in the right players!

17 defeats in 29 matches is appalling by anyone's standards!

I can’t tell if you’re joking. You do realise all those managers are worlds apart from where we are. Steve Evans? We’d be lucky to get someone like him IMO. Our fans slag him off yet he’s got a pretty decent record.
This appointment is going to come down to ££. To attract the best possible manager then we are going to have to pay. On top of that any manager who does come in is going to have to insist money is made available to improve the squad. I have no idea if this money is available or not. Let’s hope so.

17 days between contract extension and sacking would suggest we haven’t learned much
