Er, because it came from the mouth of Ryan Sparks who happens to be the new CEO. Rhodes may or may not have had a say in it, but that means little as Sparks being the CEO made the call. And now looks daft for giving a contract extension. Sparks is his own man and big enough to make decisions, he will live and die by these decisions. If we go down he will carry the can for being the CEO that took us down. This current squad never stood a chance due to a penny pinching attitude behind the scenes and an inabilty to listen to experienced voices telling Rhodes and Rupp to build an infrastructure to give a manager a fighting chance. That said McCall didn't help himself with strange recruitment and an insistence on changing things every week, something i know for a fact bugged the players as they were constantly left wondering what their roles were from week to week.
I'm sad to Stuart go but for personally selfish reasons as i love the bloke, but managerial wise i'm sure he'd have taken us down.

I haven't read all 13 pages on this thread, but I can imagine most people are glad to see Stuart go.
As for myself, I'm quite disappointed. There were clear mitigating circumstances in the close season as to why we couldn't recruit certain players. Wages were clearly one big factor, as 4 strikers were all offered deals only to turn them down. This was at a time when the wage situation was all up in the air - no one knew about the outcome of salary cap discussion at that time, or income from S/T sales, or even when the season would start.
In his post match interview yesterday he said he wanted to move some players on in the summer but was unable to due to Covid. Stuart came to the club last season and could quite clearly see who wasn't his type of player, and a pound to a penny they would have been exactly the same players that us fans would have got rid of.
Fast forward to the start of the season - personally I was surprised to see us play 3-5-2 as Stuart has always been a 4-4-2 manager. And again yesterday in his interview, he alluded to the fact he would prefer 4-4-2 as "we haven't got any wide players". I must admit I wasn't a big fan of seeing Anthony O'Connor popping up on the right wing as that a dangerous game when it comes to opposition counter attacks. How many times did we see 3 against 2 attacks against us because our centre backs were so high up the pitch? A very dangerous game, and I feel that 3-5-2 wasn't really in Stuart's heart, but that he had no choice.
Injuries have killed us.
Staunton has been a bright spark, and it's no coincidence the defence has gone to rat sh-t since he went out of the team.
Ismail is the exactly the type of player Stuart likes but has spent more time on a physio's bed than on the pitch.
Novak started the season well and has been a big miss in the 5 weeks (or whatever it is) he's been injured.
Evans, with all his L1/Champ experience was brought in to strengthen us but has hardly played.
Clarke has been pretty good this season but has been a big miss in the last couple of weeks.
Guthrie has been poor, but could have taken the strain off Donaldson, who incidentally looks like his legs have gone.
Hosannah has been bright but missed a couple of games, and now looks like he's another one who is going to be out injured with a hamstring strain.
Cooke was missing for a short while, but has been half the player he was last year.
So I suppose in summary I have a lot of sympathy for McCall. He has been dealt a horrendous hand in his third stint at the club. It is disappointing that Sparks chose to renew his contract and then sack him, what 10-14 days later? Surely Ryan can see the mitigating circumstances Stuart has had to deal with, and the plans for January are apparently well underway - so to have a complete loss of confidence with January only just around the corner is a tough one to take, as I feel that with 4-5 new signings in January that Stuart would have turned it around. The guy has managed 490 games of football - he's no mug, and he didn't say anything in his interview yesterday that anyone on here doesn't know. He knows EXACTLY what the problems are but now won't get a chance to see it through.
The biggest fear for me is that we had all this talk about consistency not 2 weeks ago, and we're already looking for a new manager. Whoever it is needs to be given 2.5 years. Let's not faff about with 6 month/18 month contracts. Let a manager build the club over a period. But between now and January I can't see where the next point is coming from. The caretaker and ultimately only has the same shoddy tools to work with for the next 2-3 weeks.Briggus, Angryangryian, River_City_Bantam and 5 others like this. -

So what now. Back to square one. If we ever even left square one in the first place. I've no faith in this squad turning it round no matter who is in charge.

I did not want Stuart back. thought it was the easy option and done to please the fans. That is when we should have done a proper recruitment. Hindsight is a wonderfull thing.
I really do hope this latest stint, does not detract from Stuarts status.
Saw him come through as a youngster, playing right back i believe, before his move into midfield, you could tell he had something and so it proved. Unfortunately his spells as manager have been far less succesfull.
Where do we go from here, who knows , but this is the time for the club to appoint a manager and proper back room set up to drag us from this pit and build for the future. If we do survive , then going forward if we can maitain the fan base and with the salary cap the money should be there to do this.
I also think that Ryan Sparks , has shown that he is not afraid to take difficult decisions, sacking the club iegend 17 days after his contract extension , in my opinion takes some balls.Inspector, MallorcaBantam, Kopendin1964 and 4 others like this. -

I think its a mark of the man and his legend that the op is Stuart gone. Had it been anyone else it would be bowyer/ grayson/ hopkin gone. Just a small point, but the fact is we call him Stuart (mccall) because he's one of us.
I hope leaving brings him some peace and next time he's back as a summariser or opposing manager, he gets the reception he deserves.

Thank goodness for that I was starting to fear for his health
Good luck Stuart hopefully you will be able to hang on to your legend (as a player) tag
You will make someone a good coach but not a manager when you sort yourself out
On to a new chapter at VP anyone any idea (not speculation) who the next incumbent will be
Obviously our players budget will be slashed having to pay 2 lots of compensation or Ami rolling out the excuses too soon of a poor January transfer windowbantamlad92, The Evidence, 1975citygent and 2 others like this. -

Whoever it is I hope they demand a full review of the back room and are allowed to bring in everyone they need from the word go. None of this no assistant manager to save money or realising 6 months into someone’s time here we need a head of recruitment. Let’s do it right for once

No doubt in my mind that todays decision was the right one. It was a knee jerk reaction to bring him back in the first place and I felt he was starting to lose it again. For those who think its a day to celebrate, just take a bit of time to think about how the guy is feeling at the moment and how many City fans he feels he's let down. That's the hallmark of the man, the word legend doesn't even come close.
I don't know a huge amount about Woodgate or if he has the right credentials, but I think that's the direction we need to go. A young manager who has had a bit of a sniff of management, has a point to prove and someone who the players can relate to (not another Michael Collins though!!). It's time for someone with fresh ideas, who can somehow motivate this shower of s**t to at least give us something on the pitch before the window opens.WilsdenBantam, Mighty Bantam, Kopendin1964 and 2 others like this. -
