Seems to have good strength and technical ability and based on his performance yesterday, he certainly adds to your team.

 

Just catching up on the EFL program and 3 of yesterdays goals scored by Southend were shown in the snipped at the end (best goals from yesterday) or whatever its called, the only one of the 4 they didnt show was when the lad went around O'Donnell and he was so cool we had chance to get a player back on the goal line to no avail.

 

I watched them myself this morning, three of those goals were stunning and I can't help but feel we'd have beaten any team in this league with our display yesterday.... I also can't help but feel you guys are being a bit hard on yourselves, we were very good yesterday, we don't normally play like that.

 

Why wasn't Patrick on the bench yesterday? Is he that bad, that an unheard of striker (?) Ellington gets in ahead of him - or is he injured?

 

We were absolute garbage yesterday but that shouldn’t detract from what a masterclass from Powell. Did his homework and nulified any threat we had while realising milk turns quicker than our defence so hit us on the break at pace. In truth the score could have been worse and i would have had no complaints, you played some decent football yesterday that would have beaten better teams than our shower of shite.

 

If he plays for us, we are Stuck with him for the season, unless, as seems unlikely, Yeovil want him back

 

I'm guessing that until the end of January, there is still a possibility of certain players going out on loan, Patrick being one of them. As he has already played for Yeovil this season, any game time for us would scupper a loan move elsewhere so possibly that's the reason (although admittedly, it could just be because he isn't very good). It will certainly be interesting to see what will happen if the players we are trying to move on don't go elsewhere - will they suddenly start to appear on the bench and get some game time in the hope they attract interest in the summer?

 

Could go anywhere else on loan though Idle, as long as we don't play him.
Thought someone like Halifax might be a good home

 

We did a similar demolition job at Rochdale on the day they could not live with us, and that is the disappointing thing @Southend Blue ..on our day we are a very good competitive side and many of us though Hopkin had found the correct balance.
We lost at Sunderland but we created chances and maybe on another day have got a draw, yesterday you played well, and I'm making no excuses but we were very poor not doing the basics.
Any idea what you paid for the lad Humphrys because he looked one hell of a player yesterday.
We have a few players 6' and over but any opposition manager knows wd are weak in the air.

I posted I had a drive down to Rawdon Meadows Friday morning and Wright. Jones, Patrick, Gibson and I think Riley were training by themselves, it would suggest to me Hopkin doesn't want them around the first team squad, but you have to ask with a bench as weak as it was yesterday swallowing your pride might have been a good move, Jones , Patrick or even Gibson could have been added to our attacking options, just a thought ?.

I'm guessing he was a free transfer. I really haven't been a fan of Powell but he does seem to find good strikers. Hopper we got from Scunthorpe and he was on fire before he got injured for the rest of the season. We're up against the HMRC again this month for another unpaid TAX bill so I doubt we paid anything at all apart from a half decent wage to the lad. I don't know how our chairman does it, he always seems to find money when needed. He's a clever bloke, always pays up in the end, though it's always a constant worry for us fans. I can never understand why you don't have money to spend, you get pretty good crowds compared to our 7 - 8k

 

It hasn't been disclosed but as the club is in a general financial mess (and has been for many years) I doubt it was a large figure. One game doesn't tell you everything but Humphrys did a good job yesterday ...... even though he had never played or met the other players before.

Did anyone else notice the Jack Payne "comedy" moment? We (Southend United) put up the board for Cox (no.10) to come off ............ and Jack Payne (ex Southend player and no 10.) started to run towards the bench before realising his mistake and sheepishly (to my eyes) turn back around. Not funny really but it made me smile.

 

Almost as ridiculous as your earlier comment. I understand you need a scapegoat, but to say that "not one of his headers or passes went to a player in claret and amber" makes you look utterly stupid, because it 100% factually incorrect

For me, given that he was played out of position he was best (4 or 5 out of 10) of a very bad set of defensive colleagues. I've protected McGowan for a long time, but any pace he has has gone following his injury. He was beaten countless times

No I'd not noticed but by the 86th minute we had other things on our minds, I my case whats our lass made for tea, I was starving and freezing.
