Southend, like City tend to either Win or Lose games ............. With only five Draws achieved between them thus far this season.
Home and Away respectively - Both have W5 D1 L7, with City having a superior GD.
City have still much to improve upon at Home, whilst Southend have shown they are a threat Away.

Southends heaviest defeat came at Sunderland - Losing 3 - 0. It should be well noted too, that their five Wins were against Clubs in the bottom half.

I anticipate a very close game, with just one goal deciding it - in Citys favour :)

Southend lost 5 of last 6 away in league. Only scoring two goals. Couple of decent sides in there but also lost away to Wimbledon and Coventry in that mix.

We must win this one. A clean sheet would be nice but again we will have to change our back 4/5 so will take a 2-1 scrappy win

Good set of fixtures coming up to pick up points. To get to the normal safe point 52 points we still need another 25 points. With 10 home matches left and only Luton, Peterborough and Doncaster left of the play off chasing teams we need to make VP a fortress like it used to be. If we can get 15-18 points from the home matches then we give ourselves a real chance. Agree we aren't at must win yet but after last week it would be a great way to respond and keep our home run going.

A convincing win - if Hoppy reverts back to his previous formation/system instead of 'tinkering' as at Barnsley.

I think this season 55 points should be the target for safety. A big ask as the league doesn’t lie.

If DH plays Caddis in his best position might help, he hasn’t got the legs to play midfield.

We haven’t played bad at home lately, so looking forward to a competitive game.

    It’s a no lose game.

In my opinion Farsley, it has to be a three points win game. We can't keep saying that we simply have to avoid a defeat.
We now need a run a wins from the next few matches ala Scunthorpe who are now pulling away.
It's getting just a tad desperate now.

Don’t disagree, Bantam-Stin-Ellatha. We need to win every game. Seasons running out of games and the points are desperate.

If we can hit the Christmas holiday form, we should have a chance.

But, all teams need points DH needs players in the right position to give us a chance.

I think it is a must win game to lift the mood after getting thumped 3 - 0 with a poor display from the boys. I fear another bad display will get the fans on their backs again and we may slip into the same shit we have been in most of this season.
Don't underestimate how bad it can be when playing at VP for the lads. I can feel the tension sitting in the stands some games, I dread to think how they feel.
Get a goal in the first 15 mins and I'm going for a 3 0 win.
I think Southend have being playing very centrally this season without much width. I personnel think this will work to our advantage and will bring Payne and O'Brien into the game. (Assuming they are still here)

    Now then. Southend fan here.

Pleased to see you picking up points and moving (slowly) towards safety. Always look forward to this game and was particularly keen to see Wright and Payne in action. I believe that Wright has moved on - I did question at the time how he had managed to improve so much that his move from Southend to Bradford led to him becoming your captain .... and sadly it does not seem to have worked out for either you (Bradford City) or him.

Payne is another kettle of fish though. Loved by many at Southend, the question was always how and where to play him and Phil Brown was criticised for not being able to get to grips with the midfield and attacking formation to make the best of him. Payne seems to be getting plenty of time on the pitch with you and pitching in with goals. No doubt we will be working hard to keep him quiet.

As for Southend United - well, we have Dieng of course - and he has been okay. The difficulty Dieng (and the whole team) has had is that it has been a team of constant change due to a terrible injury hit season. Our leading scorer is missing, half the 1st choice defence is missing, we can't get the midfield balance right and some players seem to get injuries just reaching for their boots.

So really I wouldn't be surprised if we come and win and play well ........... or equally flop. The first goal seems to be crucial. We were giving Sunderland a good game but couldn't get the ball in the net, let in 1 and the game slipped away in the 2nd half as we chased the game. And we gave Barnsley a good game until an 87th minute corner - again we had good chances to put the ball in and, as they say on the telly, you pay the price.

Finally, if you haven't seen it then try to see the goal from the game against Plymouth on Saturday from the young lad scoring from inside our own half. Worth a look no matter where your loyalties lie.

Sounds like Saturday could be anyone's game.

I feel we got the worse deal comparing Wright to Dieng although it I'm honest neither are all that good! Do you still have Will Atkinson? Remembered fondly by city for his involvement in an unforgettable season

A 'three points win game'? Did you translate that into Greek and then back again? ;)

Dieng is streets ahead of Wright as a player. Dieng wasn't consistently good but he put in some good performances for us. His goal and overall game in the 3-3 draw with the Blades was better than anything Wright has shown.
