People were talking about a £40 rise, let's not take it completely out of context.

If you can't afford £40 a year due to rising bills then you probably can't really afford the season ticket anyway.

£40 potentially spread over a year via direct debit. I doubt there's many who would be put off by that.

Next seasons fixtures will be interesting anyway with the World Cup, we can guarentee there won't be fixtures scheduled for Tuesday 29th November with England playing on that day potentially against Wales/Scotland at 7pm.

Away from that it might be more in non-league rather than the EFL but I won't be surprised if there were more 1pm kick offs in the winter months to reduce the amount time the floodlights are needed, same with midweek games early in the season kicking off a bit earlier to get as much played when it's light.

We’ll done City on the price freeze. It may in reality have been the only real choice. I’m not sure some people understand just how difficult it is going to get for those on lower incomes over the coming months, especially with a second energy price hike in the Autumn.

I did say for a family so your £40 example is possibly more around at least double your figure, husband wife and a couple of children.
I think its very much in context for the reasons I've given with regards a family, if as many are predicting once the cap is taken off utility bills could be around the £3,000 annually, that's before the national insurance hike, petrol prices, mortgages, with inflation running at a predicted 10% we'll have to disagree.

OK, so £80 to £100 (around £2 a week), If you can't afford that over a year on the direct debit scheme then again, you're probably cutting it far too fine spending money on season tickets.

Will be interesting to see how many L2 clubs do increase their ST prices for next season (apart from those promoted or relegated). Psychologically it seems the right thing to do in the current economic climate. Clubs will be keen to retain existing ST holders as finances are squeezed really hard for the vast majority.

Idiot referees who decide they need to go on when they don't. If they say needed they have to go on.

Even pre energy price hike I’ve never understood why we have kickoffs on a Saturday at 3pm when the clocks go back, if they started at 3pm start of the season then went to 1pm when the clocks go back there would only be need for floodlights a few times a season on Tuesday nights plus a lot of games in winter would likely not be as cold as it wouldn’t be dark.

If it’s because they need to give fans time to get there, then why do they always have long distance trips on Tuesday nights when people work and school…

I’d just move games to 1pm when the clocks go back, and have the longer distance trips Tuesdays, or early and late in the season then there wouldn’t be an excuse it’s for the fans.

I can remember a time, pre floodlights, when kick off times were staggered according to the time of year.As I recall, 2-15 was the norm in the winter, but of course in those days matches finished at 4-40, and not nearly 5 o'clock as they do now.

Get in the real world and stop talking drivel, of course we know what would be ideal in a more perfect world, but financial realities are going to bite very hard for many fans of the club and football won't be their biggest worry by a long shot.
If you can afford a bit more then I am sure the club would be very grateful

Under EFL regulations, each club is entitled to fix their home Saturday kick off times to any time between 11:30 am and 3.15 pm (with the caveat that they are potentially liable for away team hotel expenses should the kick off be 12 noon or earlier).

So, there is nothing, in the regulations, to stop City (or any other EFL club) from setting their Saturday home match kick off time to, say, 12:30 pm, which would not only save on floodlighting costs, but would also allow the matches to be shown on iFollow in the UK.

Financial realities are going to bite for the club too, that's the real world and why most businesses are putting their prices up.

The drivel is coming from people who can't accept this is going to have an impact on what the club can pay out.

It would be interesting to know what the reaction to earlier kick off times would be.I would be all for it.At the moment I spend half the afternoon hanging around for kick off, then when the match finished its a mad rush to get home, especially if I am going out in the evening,I would love ko being brought forward an hour.

The club have held prices because they know realistically this is going to be what the majority of fans can afford - Hughes understands this but is confident he will still have a competitive budget.
I think many fans will buy season tickets despite the difficult financial times because they are appreciate the club are trying to help and because they have hope that under MH we have some hope of a better product on the pitch - and lets face it in tough times we all still need an escape

Not been able to find a definitive cost. But googling, I found these figures for Manchester City. There are approximately 218 floodlights in the stadium each using 2000 watts. In total they produce 436,000 watts then they are all on - roughly the amount produced by 130 kettles being on at the same time’!
So the actual cost may not be that great. They will all be LED. If you can find the commercial costs per KWH, you may well be able to get a rough estimate.
