No problem with it, but no way should it take up prime parts of the ground. Put it on the end of the Sunwin Stand.

What is it you are not getting? If they were to introduce a designated area, there would be NO REASON for you to not be able to see. You simply sit in your normal seat and let those that want to stand, stand.

And if they do opt to move into a standing area and then find a taller supporter stood in front of them, I wouldn’t empathise with that either

Just to add my threepenneth, though I am retired now, I have supported city for over 50 years and have a background in Safety at Sports Grounds and Building Regulations. I carried out inspections at Valley Parade just after the fire and the redevelopment done to 3 sides (and a corner) of the ground during the Richmond years.
in January i went to see Borrusia Dortmund v Freiberg, 80,000 crowd with large areas of 'safe' standing. The 'Dortmund Wall' behind the goal is impressive, to see 25000 standing, singing, flag waving supporters, a sea of yellow and black
......but what you don't see are clear aisles to aid evacuation because they are blocked by standing supporters.
I was in the opposite end, also a 'safe' standing area. 15 minutes in i needed a toilet break. Once i found the yellow painted aisle i had to wrestle my way through fans to get to the toilets. I mentioned my concerns to stewards when I eventually arrived on the concourse but they just shrugged their shoulders. I watched the remainder of the game on tv from the concourse, not wanting to fight my way through the fans.....particularly the 50 or so fans jamming the top of the stairs into the terraced areas. It was also strange to see smoking everywhere in the stadium and vast amounts of beer being consumed on the terraces.
I felt anything but safe on the terrace and i think that because they have had safe standing for some time in Germany, they have become lax in enforcement and I wouldn't want that to happen in this country.
To give balance, none of my friends felt unsafe in the standing areas but maybe we all have different ideas of what is 'safe'

Now this makes perfect sense. Personally I’m not that bothered about it, but can see why some of our fans would like it.

And as we will be operating at less than 50% capacity next season, there will be loads of room for safe standing areas to be made ;)

I agree, if they want to go all retro and stand up let them go the whole hog and do it roofless. While we are at it give em an open air toilet (wall to piss on with a half round gutter in the floor as drainage) for the full authentic feel.

I wouldn't give them a toilet personally, you're too soft.

I went to a Bundesliga 2 game (St Pauli vs Kaiserslauten) a couple of seasons ago. I think it was just standard terracing rather than safe standing. I agree that the stewarding wasn't as strict as over here. The atmosphere was generally good natured and more carnival like. I think the football culture in Germany is healthier and hasn't become sanitised or lost touch with its working class routes. There is less snobbery.
The sight of all the waving flags is a sight to behold, the way the whole terrace seems to move and sing in unison. Nothing comes close in England with the possible exception of the anfield Kop. But, strangely, the atmosphere was less 'edgy' than in English grounds. It reminded me of going to Bulls back in the day, just bigger and better and less cheesy. Non of the aggro you associate with football.
I too was surprised at the openly available beer being consumed, but never really felt under threat.

Millerntor-Stadion has been completely redeveloped since it was originally built in the early 1960s. It is on a flat area in Hamburg, not on a hillside.

Is standing more important than staying at VP?

I guess what I am saying is that the stadium you have quoted as an example (St Pauli), is very different to Valley Parade and perhaps the location and topography, is suitable to redevelopment into a modern ‘standing stadium’.

Valley Parade was built on the side of a hill, boxed in by Victorian terraces and other buildings. Manningham Rugby Club, we’re desperate to find a ground and struggled to identify a more suitable location in the vicinity.

Valley Parade does not have a large amount of spare land around it, so stadium development has been constrained. The current stands, could not be readily converted to accommodate ‘Safe Standing’. Substantial sums would have to be spent.

There is already a clamour to spend more on quality players, to totally replace the pitch, upgrade the existing facilities.

So to now contemplate diverting substantial sums to another project, seems wholly unnecessary at this juncture.

I guess most of us would like to see a better playing surface with quality players, rather than diverting precious resources to project ‘Safe Standing’.

Money spent on a squad full of quality players all day long over safe standing.
You would spend more time out of your seat anyway if you were watching your side turning in an attacking display every home game.

100% back this campaign. As someone who practically loses their voice every game chanting, singing, etc. The atmosphere is an integral part of the game for me and there is no doubt that the atmosphere is improved 10-fold when there is a large number standing throughout the game and singing - Charlton & Blackburn away are prime examples.

The bit i where i was stood was just standard terracing from what i remember. Like i was saying, the club would have to do a feasibility study before making any decisions.
I'm not sure why the 'constrained site' would preclude the installation of safe standing. VP is still a relatively modern ground so it wouldn't require a major rebuild/ expansion.
