That's because some people are selfish arseholes who don't care that they block the view of children and people behind them.

Just to add my threepenneth, though I am retired now, I have supported city for over 50 years and have a background in Safety at Sports Grounds and Building Regulations. I carried out inspections at Valley Parade just after the fire and the redevelopment done to 3 sides (and a corner) of the ground during the Richmond years.
in January i went to see Borrusia Dortmund v Freiberg, 80,000 crowd with large areas of 'safe' standing. The 'Dortmund Wall' behind the goal is impressive, to see 25000 standing, singing, flag waving supporters, a sea of yellow and black
......but what you don't see are clear aisles to aid evacuation because they are blocked by standing supporters.
I was in the opposite end, also a 'safe' standing area. 15 minutes in i needed a toilet break. Once i found the yellow painted aisle i had to wrestle my way through fans to get to the toilets. I mentioned my concerns to stewards when I eventually arrived on the concourse but they just shrugged their shoulders. I watched the remainder of the game on tv from the concourse, not wanting to fight my way through the fans.....particularly the 50 or so fans jamming the top of the stairs into the terraced areas. It was also strange to see smoking everywhere in the stadium and vast amounts of beer being consumed on the terraces.
I felt anything but safe on the terrace and i think that because they have had safe standing for some time in Germany, they have become lax in enforcement and I wouldn't want that to happen in this country.
To give balance, none of my friends felt unsafe in the standing areas but maybe we all have different ideas of what is 'safe'

Perhaps we could just concentrate on building a squad capable of winning promotion and leave well alone with things that don't need changing just because a few folk want to harp back to the 1980's and stand at football ?

It’s a 100% yes for me.
Make the lower tier of The Kop into a safe standing area. I think there are currently areas for wheelchair users in the top of the lower tier of the Kop, so just make sure people in that area are still able to see while making the area below into standing.
I have found that when this question has been brought up before, people have had fears of going back to the terracing of the 1980s, but safe standing is not like that at all. Every ticket is allocated to a specific seat which you can stand up in front of.bantamlad92, Skyebantam, chris mac and 1 other person like this. -

After my experience of the play off finals at Wembley where I ended up among the City fans who had decided "you don't go to Wembley to sit down" and had to stand up to watch the game I do not want safe standing. After half an hour I had to sit down to give my knees and feet a rest thereby missing whatever was going on in the game until I felt okay to stand back up. No standing for me please.

Couldn't care less either way, it won't make any difference to the atmosphere which has been sanitised to death in this country.

Plenty of places left to stand and watch football if that's your thing.

Why wouldn't you want safe standing? Those that want to sit can sit, those that stand can stand.

Valley Parade was built on the side of a hill, boxed in by Victorian terraces and other buildings. Manningham Rugby Club, we’re desperate to find a ground and struggled to identify a more suitable location in the vicinity.
Valley Parade does not have a large amount of spare land around it, so stadium development has been constrained. The current stands, could not be readily converted to accommodate ‘Safe Standing’. Substantial sums would have to be spent.
There is already a clamour to spend more on quality players, to totally replace the pitch, upgrade the existing facilities.
So to now contemplate diverting substantial sums to another project, seems wholly unnecessary at this juncture.
I guess most of us would like to see a better playing surface with quality players, rather than diverting precious resources to project ‘Safe Standing’.Allotment Bantam, River_City_Bantam and Foghornleghorn like this. -

Money spent on a squad full of quality players all day long over safe standing.
You would spend more time out of your seat anyway if you were watching your side turning in an attacking display every home game. -

It'll never happen but I'd love the bottom of the Kop to go back to terracing.

We'd be happier if the club just concentrate their efforts on the pitch and get us out of the constant cycle of false promises and disappointment.trevor, vladimir and Bantam-in-Greece like this.
