Not sure what to think, needs to start talking open and honestly to the fans though if he has any desire to sell season tickets.

I dont trust Rhodes judgement so i apologise in advance to him for that. Could well be doing him a dis-service, he might thrive in the role and prize enough cash out of Rupp to give us a decent team, who knows.

I have met Ryan and can confirm that he is efficient, enthusiastic and gets things done. Hopefully he will continue to use that energy in a wise and balanced way, to help the club, stop the rot.
He is a local person and I recall he went to Woodhouse Grove on his CV. So rather than someone with no affinity to the area, he knows it well.
The big task will be the football side of the business. Having a club legend as the ‘boss’ could be difficult to manage.
Hopefully he can arrange for McCall to get some extra support on the football management side. You would think that a fitness conditioning/coach and possibly a sports psychologist could be recruited. I would hope that a specialist recruitment team could be identified, and not hindered by a Rahic style interference.

Be honest what can you honestly expect? Ideas cost but so do seasoned CEOs (I'm guessing?). We have really showed our hand this season, in assembling a terrible team, devoid of value.
To be honest, at the moment the Sparks thing is insignificant to the on field issues. It is so important we retain our football league status (ridiculous scenario ain't it) and acquire some team value.
Rupp is the big problem for me. Yes we need a buyer. All these problems or however you see it has been under his watch. Been in Germany is no excuse for his absence in driving this club forward.

I wish Sparks the best of times. Its a real tough baptism.

In a previously well run and forward thinking club this may have been seen as a progressive appointment. In Bradford City's case though it feels like yet another thing that's done on the cheap and if I was Ryan I'd already be feeling like I'd been set up to fail.

If he does the impossible and actually turns the club around in the short term he should be off at the first flutter of eyelashes from elsewhere because unless there's a huge change in the apathy from the bloke above him he'll only ever be treading water until the inevitable down turn.

On a slightly more serious note if you think this is anything other than bad for the club you're deluded. Sparks might be the nicest bloke in the world. He might have lived locally all his life and have been conceived in the toilets. It doesn't stop the fact he has absolutely no experience whatsoever with the position he's taking on. Is mostly a cheap internal promotion, and also that's he's a PR man. Expect the radio silence whenever we're on our arse to continue all the way down to the conference.

I remember a certain Shaun Harvey coming from a humble administrative job at Farsley Celtic to the top job at the EFL and he was not much older than Ryan, all the best fella.

Sparks, I’ve asked in another thread but is he responsible for McCall’s contract extension ? Because that’s not good business management if we have to sack him and pay him compensation down the line.

Makes me uncertain having Sparks as CEO if he’s the one who’s signed off on Stuart getting a contract extension.

It wouldn't surprise me if this contract extension has been agreed for a while and Rhodes thinks fans will be so happy with the announcement that Stuart is signed up that will deflect attention and anger away from the baffling appointment of Sparks.

The sad thing is he might not be wrong.

Could be all sorts going on behind this. A buyout, a director of football, Rupp not happy with Rhodes. I'm not ecstatic about either of today's appointments but these could be the first domino's required to fall to make the others happen. Who knows.

Or it could just be a massive f@@k up.

I absolutely agree with this paragraph.

I think Ryan has a Herculean task.

There is SO MUCH to fix on the pitch, everything from employing a good fitness coach, to having staff at the club who know which footballers are available either as free agents or in January, to having good, fruitful links with other clubs that actually benefit us (Leeds aside)... Then there's a massive vision that needs instilling that has to be right and that fans have to be able to buy into...

It's a huge job, and if someone like Huw Jenkins had come in, his reputation would fill in an awful lot of blanks without him actually needing to outline the full scale of his plans. Ryan, quite obviously, doesn't have that luxury, so he's going to have to be CEO, salesman, spokesperson, the person to whom Stuart answers in the first instance, the person who drives the club and Stuart to fill the obvious gaps in the club's staffing AND squad, an extremely innovative person, someone with a preternatural ability to connect with fans and understand what they actually want and what's actually valid in the midst of some pretty ludicrous demands (looks at @Fordy117@Fordy117)...

    Deep breath...

It's a gargantuan undertaking to turn around an oil tanker the size of Bradford City. If he's not allowed to surround himself with great minds courtesy of either Rupp or the budget, it's going to be too much of an ask IMHO. Julian Rhodes hasn't come close to achieving what Ryan needs to IF he's to avoid looking like the cheap appointment you're saying, Monkey.

I'll tell you what will make him an excellent CEO: someone who can stick the ball in the back of the net on a regular basis.

Well I think it's a insult to fans that Ryan and Bradford City never thought we would challenge this season! I think that's a disgrace!

So don't expect someone who can stick the ball in the back of the net on a regular basis.

The fact that we are even mentioning the fact that we need a proper fitness coach is worrying.FFS this is a fitness based profession that we are talking about.Should be an absolute pre requisite that we have one in place.Even more so if you go down the small squad route.
