It was the sort of thing we all wanted to hear but I guess deep down we all knew it was simply BS from a communications expert. It's up there with some of his other 'leadership' clichéed comments ... 'Not getting promoted this season will be regarded as failure' and of course 'This club doesn't accept mediocrity'. We all fell for it at the time .. and continue to do so! Something has to change.

I remember those meetings at work... "at pace" became an actual thing where I was. Managers talking about delivering "at pace", people working "at pace", getting things completed "at pace".

    It literally meant nothing.

Just telling someone to work "at pace" doesn't change anything, it's just audio clutter, background noise, as people continue to work in the exact same and normal way they worked to begin with. They weren't undertaking projects with deadlines, they were literally just working, but someone wanted to say "at pace" so that needed repeating pointlessly constantly.

    Anyway.

I'm glad we're not accepting mediocrity and recognize our own failure to get promoted, I'm sure glaring angrily at the league table will fix it!

I just wish we could plan and go forward with confidence. It sound's like Rupp has topped us up, which is what he should do. I presume he sanctioned this deficit it is rumoured we have accrued. It also bothers me he will want it back, so it will be £10 million plus. We won’t be able to attract any buyers if the price keeps going up. It is an ongoing dilemma. A self funding football club just cannot function as an ambitious competitive club. We can’t have a plan that entails investment ie promotion it will be by sheer luck if we manage.

We're gonna smash this division at pace, then storm the next division at pace - I can hear it now....

We should have been promoted last season and luck would have no part in it. Poor football management by MH is to blame for the fact we dudnt

I smile when I hear we need pace in the team as we know pace alone is not the answer over the years we've had players with pace but few who are pacey and have an end product, Wright was possibly the last to have both but he wasn't here long enough to see if it could be sustained over a season or more

The one lingering justification for circling the toilet end of the football league, was in 'not being loss making'. If, with 18k paying fans and a turnover of 7m a year with no obvious investment in growing the club, still generates a loss in achieving a mid table league 2 position, then not only does is show how inept we are but we may as well pack up and go home.

Mark Hughes' entire reign was entirely outside of Ryan Sparks plans, though, so shouldn't have prevented us moving forward in other areas. Ryan Sparks should have had his plans working the whole time Hughes was here, ensuring that if he failed, we didn't pay the price for it.

That doesn't seem to be the case though. We're saddled with poor signings like Derbyshire, who should have been vetoed, and we're in the financial shitter hence we need to sell players cheap.

We have plenty of decent players enough to progress. time to utilise them to better effect

We had a better team last year. We lost crucial players, Wright, Crichlow. We had both Lewis and Cook firing on all cylinders. This season we haven’t been able to sustain a run of results, yes that was poor recruitment and management of the team. It now looks like we also blew the budget.

I don't think we have plenty of decent players though mate, we have a few at best, one of which just left the building. I'm happy to wait and see who we bring in, but at this stage, the good old mediocrity looms once again.

And our current best player, Halliday, is being played out of position.

The thing is a couple of serious issues eat into your assertion, ‘We have plenty of decent players enough to progress’.

Sadly we have a number of key players (or those paid significant amounts of the budget), who are injured. Think Oliver, Walker, Pattison, Stubbs and now the returning Young.

We also have a number of neo-geriatric players in the late autumn/early winter of their careers. Think Derbyshire, McDonald, Taylor, Doyle, Smallwood, Cook and Ridehalgh.

Add onto that several uninspiring loans and players like Odusina, Hendrie, Cousin-Dawson, Richardson and Youmbi, on the books but out on loan.

Sorry but l cannot agree that we have ‘plenty of decent players enough to progress’. Too much mediocrity, injury, beyond their sell by date, and loan nonsense.

Lawn made a lot out of owning City. Interest for his loan and then the profit from selling.

Aren't we being a bit premature here. Suddenly we are financially in the sh#t because someone has tweeted that he heard City "might" have needed Directors loans to plug a gap this year.
