Because Hughes probably doesn't care about a game against Crawley or Salford because of who they have as manager. It's unlikely he would feel the need to prove himself by out-gunning Kevin Betsy in a tactical shoot out.

He's made his name, and you get that from how he talks. Very assured. Very confident.

Hunger is not the same as desire. I'm sure Hughes desires success just as much as Neil Wood. However Neil Wood will likely take pride from beating Mark Hughes' Bradford City.

It's a fair question you asked, but that's why young usually goes with hungry. If these young managers (and players) don't have a voracious appetite for piecemeal success, they're likely in the wrong profession.

For Hughes, it's probably about longer term goals. Bigger pictures. He doesn't need to win on a cold Tuesday night in a seaside town to prove to himself or anyone else that he can do a job as first team coach.

 

We’ll have to agree to disagree on what Hungry is Jon although I agree with the desire part, but I’d put the younger ones in the desire category as well a desire to prove themselves rather than Hughes having a desire to have success at everything he does. They’re all sportsman and all competitive, nothing else matters for me hunger is just a buzz word.

You can tell when a sportsman has lost that desire, Wright and Akpan to prime examples but other than them most players and coaches regardless of age have that same desire to succeed and do well. I suppose the biggest difference would be that a younger coach or player may big an achievement up more to prove themselves again though it’s not what I’d call hunger the phrase just grates and how it’s only every used for people with a lack of experience.

 

Well hunger just means you want your next meal.

My point about the difference is that Hughes probably doesn't care what the next meal is, because he's not going to starve any time soon.

If Neil Wood fails to capture a few meals, his entire career is at stake. What does he do if he fails? Back to the U23's?

I don't really care about the metaphor much, but that's what I mean when I associate young with hungry - only saying it since you asked of course, you don't have to agree!

 

Also, metaphorically, the young need feed to grow, not just to live.

Can't see us bringing in another striker unless Cook leaves.

Cook will score goals at this level and with Harratt, Angol and possibly Young all vying for that sole striker spot then I suspect Hughes might think he'd got enough unless he surprises us and plays 2 up top.

I'd rather we spent some of the striker money on a very good right back. That's the position I feel, at the moment, is the weakest in the squad.

 

I dont see Cook going anywhere unless an offer we cant refuse comes in. Dont see the Club forcing him to move on anyway.

 

If he gets to the end of the window and he's not started a game, he might want to move on.

Let's be honest, he's going to get 10-15 goals this season. If he left, we'd need to get someone in who can score them.

 

No chance will Hughes will want to pee about for a couple of seasons he will have come in and seen what a poor league it is and with a few decent signings he will get us up next season .............. and I think the owners pushing the boat out will have the same mentality as him

Hughes is smart. He will be wanting promotion this season for sure but building massively for the season after if it doesn’t happen.

 

So are the club going for promotion this season or not? You said yesterday they aren't. What has changed your mind in the last 24 hrs.
