Jesus wept.
In a game where we miss countless chances, then leave a forward completely unmarked in acres of space in the last minute of the game, how is it the keepers fault?
The problem is poor finishing, poor decisions with final balls and lack of options to freshen things up when legs get tired.
Added to that - today I’m concerned by how many of our players were out on their feet in the last fifteen minutes. Cooke, Watt, Vernham, Gilliead - all knackered

ROD starts against Exeter for me. He's still our best keeper despite the completely over the top witch hunt against him on here.
The way others have avoided criticism whilst it gets lumped on ROD is absolutely laughable.
I've even seen him blame for the first at Chesterfield. Not the completely comical defending out wide, not the way the centre half is caught wrong sided by Rowe (who let's be fair, isn't exactly lightning) and not that he's then not strong enough to recover and get goal side. Apparently it's the keepers fault for not blocking the tap in from a yard away.
The bias some of you have completely blinds you to giving a fair and accurate appraisal and the odd player now and again is pretty much finished before he starts.
Players have peaks and troughs, especially in division 4 but a peak doesn't mean he's PL bound and a trough doesn't mean he's completely finished.Wakefield Bantam, Rogered Tart, Idlebantam and 5 others like this. -

Ideally we will get to see Canavan back in with Songo'o sat just in front of him and Paudie to tighten us up moreahar964, WilsdenBantam, Inspector and 5 others like this. -

I know he is poor at commanding his area but some really do go overboard, someone even suggested he come for the second goal yesterday which was crossed to near the edge of the box. Most on here have no clue about being a keeper.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand...bantamdave41, Gardscoigne, baggers and 5 others like this. -

ROD is in the last year of his contract and will probably leave at the end of the season, He is a good number 2 and there are much more priorities as regards strengthening the team with another attacking midfielder and a forward needed to complete the squad for what is a long season with the inevitable injuries and suspensions,

He was poor for the second goal and was partly at blame, For crosses you either come and claim them or stay on your line, You do not come off your line and stay in no mans land which leaves a huge gap behind you to aim for, Poor keeping

He is an average 4th tier keeper, prone to the odd error, nothing else to it.Stoneski, NorthernMonkey, Mike Hunt and 2 others like this. -
It doesn't really matter to me who is between the sticks, as long as the back four have confidence in them. I'm sure there will be differing opinions on this but last season, it always felt to me that our defence looked the most confident when Hornby was in goal, and there seemed to be a lot less finger pointing going on as well.

I mean, the post that suggested ROD should have rolled over and somehow booted it off the line after it hit the post in the Barrow game was one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read. How is anyone supposed to take that sort or criticism seriously?Parader, Idlebantam, Dennis and 2 others like this. -

Thought the challenge on ROD early in the first half was a straight red TBH-their lad made sure he made contact as best he could and from where I was sitting it was his knee that made contact with ROD's head.
As for the goal-if he was on his goal line like he should have been instead of being in no mans land, then he casually collects the header and we win the game.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand... -

My thoughts too Dave. Even if it's a 16 year old it's better than sticking Paudie in nets. Barton did exactly what I expected- get someone to kick o'donnell very very early and I suspect he would have taken a red card as the price for forcing od off

I'm far from R O'D's biggest fan, he's a decent shot stopper, but in this league where set pieces and crosses that come into the box in the air are one of the major ways to convert, he's never filled me with any confidence whatsoever. Commanding he most certainly isn't.
I can't hold him responsible for either of the goals conceded yesterday though, both were the result of pitiful defending. And if they keep letting in such soft goals, then they're going to struggle to threaten the play-off places, regardless of what's happening at the other end of the pitch. Here's hoping that Canavan's return solidifies that leaky defense and they start putting some of the chances away.Ulysses S Grant, Bronco, Gardscoigne and 2 others like this. -

I would move him back into the middle though as I think him, Canavan and Paudie should be reasonably solid once they can get a run of games together and with Sutton alongside him we've also got the energy and pace to break from deep when we need to.WilsdenBantam, Ulysses S Grant, Dratsab taf and 2 others like this.
