Without doing an in depth breakdown of the number of goals conceded and posting all the boring numbers here last season we had the 11th best defensive record in the division which accounted for that terrible run of form under Stuart and this season we have conceded 9 in 8 which is slap bang in the middle in terms of goals conceded:

Teams conceded a lot more (+2 or more than our 9): 7
    Teams conceded a similar number (+ or – 1 than our 9): 8
Teams conceded a lot less (-2 or fewer than our 9): 8

So you can say that over the course of last season and the start of this we are about the 11th best team in the division defensively

To overcome that we will need to score a lot of goals which ironically is what Morecambe did as they performed very poorly defensively with only SEVEN teams letting in more goals and yet they finished 4th

This season our defensive is doing a lot better than Morecambe's defence did last season but scoring nowhere near as many goals

Looks pretty obvious to me that under Adams we either score goals or we fail to make the play offs SIMPLE and absolutely no statistics or data suggest we are conceding too many goals to be in the play offs

Sorry to break it to you buddy I feel like you are trying to make a big point about ROD conceding a couple of shots from outside the box but this past weekend the shot was as accurate as possible bouncing off the inside of the post AND didn't I keep reading it was crosses and ROD was a vampire which is it because if it were both we'd be letting in far more than we are

Not for me he's not and it seems all of our recent managers agree.

Don't get me wrong, he's not a bad keeper and had a decent run but he wasn't outstanding (in the same way ROD isn't) and this fabled "distribution" he apparently has seems to want filling in the same draw as Rhys Evans not being able to dive to his left.

Hornby is now 26 and is yet to nail down the number one position at a league club so it's not just at Bradford where he hasn't convinced the manager(s) enough.

A lot of people thought Hornby might start this season and it was clear that Adams was monitoring it very very closely so that he is yet again failing to get into the team tells me everything I need to know

Hope he plays tomorrow and does well but it's another tough assignment after conceding 3 against Lincoln

Its pretty clear that Adams is opting for experience over youth. Non of the younger players with the exception of FCD have had a chance. It’s going to take an injury to O’Donnell for Hornby to get a run of games. I’m far more comfortable with Hornby in goal because he seems assured and decisive in and around the 6 yard box. I can’t remember him conceding goals from outside the box, whereas ROD seems to fall victim to them more regularly.

Hornby is 26 though. I'm not sure him not being selected is purely down to experience.

As for the other lads, I'd pick Staunton over Kelleher and Scales over Gillead or Evans all day long going on what we've seen so far.

He's certainly been no better than Staunton was and despite his size he doesn't look particularly dominant in the air. It was also his mistake that led the goal on Saturday. That's a shocking header from him to put it back inside.

The Hornby fan club have been quiet recently, if ROD had have conceded 6 goals in 2 games he would have been hounded out of the club by some

For either keeper it is not the amount of goals conceded but whether the keeper could be expected to save any that went past him

ROD is certainly a controversial figure on here..perhaps we would be better served with a jar of Marmite between the sticks!;)

He is an average lower league keeper and is doing okay for me.

The mistake in the summer was perhaps not looking for better rather than offer a new contract to a career bench warmer in Hornby.

Maybe Adams prioritised other positions within budget

Didn't we do that a few years ago? Might have been early in McCall's first spell (apologies if I'm doing him an injustice), but I'm sure there was a infamous quote about the majority of the budget going on the outfield players as the goalkeeping position wasn't deemed overly important

I do remember not offering better terms to keep McLaughlin, which was a huge mistake in my opinion, maybe that is the occasion you are thinking of?

Or fans either educating themselves or at the very least giving a fair assessment.

I mean, the post that suggested ROD should have rolled over and somehow booted it off the line after it hit the post in the Barrow game was one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read. How is anyone supposed to take that sort or criticism seriously?

ROD should keep his place at the moment, he needs longer to show he can be better, Having said that he should have saved a couple of the goals we have let in that looked soft but is not to blame for the defeats as others shoulder the blame for that including Adams himself, Personally I think Hornby is the better keeper and should have been first choice but Adams went with ROD and he deserves a little more time to prove himself as number one

Is not 18 months long enough yes Hornby is the better keeper of the two & should be given his chance as no1

And yet not a single manager during Hornby's time at the club has agreed with you.

That's not to say they are right of course, plenty of managers make selections that price to be poor but it does suggest that Hornby might not actually be as good as we believe from a very small sample of games.
