You can't really do it as how would you choose which 4 games to take off? Anyone could just take off the four games they wish to suit whichever argument they're making

It doesn't really matter to me who is between the sticks, as long as the back four have confidence in them. I'm sure there will be differing opinions on this but last season, it always felt to me that our defence looked the most confident when Hornby was in goal, and there seemed to be a lot less finger pointing going on as well.

I have no idea what you’re going on about pal, you’re the one the statistics proved wrong. I really couldn’t care less either way Kev who the number 1 is, I’ve said it before they’re both average but R’OD was made a scapegoat and don’t try deny it.

I’ll leave it there because I agree with you on a fair few things and it’s Friday night so I’ve better things to do than have a slanging match on here over a subject I’m not overly bothered about. Enjoy your weekend.

This was my perception too last season. Our back four seemed much calmer and less panicked with Hornby behind them. You can look at as many stats as you like, but it's the knock on effect that's much harder to measure, unless you have Pro stats at your finger tips. If you're not sure if your keeper is going to put the ball into areas you've trained on together, you'd be hesitant and on the back foot. Hornby seemed much more consistent in finding the areas that outfield players were expecting to receive the ball in. And then on the other hand, ROD has shown himself at times to be a great shot stopper. So as a poster rightly said earlier in this thread, let em battle it out throughout the season. They'll both learn alot about themselves and improve.

So, both keepers were making mistakes and no one thought to look at the defence and midfield as a unit rather than just conveniently criticise the two exposed individuals?

A keeper at this level is generally only as good as the protection in front of him. If that's poor, there's not a keeper in the bottom two league's that will be consistently mistake free.

Think that's a given across most L2 teams, up and down the pitch, Northern. Good and promising though many of our players may be, they're currently playing in L2 for a reason. The higher up you get, the more and more consistent players are on a week to week basis. Adams job now is to get that higher percentage of consistency from goalies up to strikers. If he can put 10-15 per cent on last season, we're promoted.

I’m not denying my opinion . It’s there for all to see, always has been always will. I’m consistent in my thought rather than being inconsistent unlike some who blow which ever the wind blows at the time.

    See my post #59
I deliberately left the posters name off the response

My weekend will be great thanks;) Hope yours is too.

    Note
I haven’t posted any stats perhaps you are getting a little mixed up again , I posted an opinion, which I’m consistent with.

Agreed and believing DA can squeeze more out of the squad is why I'm optimistic about the coming season. It's starting to feel like we've got a very capable man steering the ship and someone who is proven at navigating the waters.

Yep, there's no bullshit here, he knows what he's doing. And if he comes up short, he'll be the first to admit it. Like you, haven't felt so confident at the start of a season for a good long while. All digits crossed, mate!

At least you are consistent from memory. Let’s see what Adams thinks?
I’m happy to go with his decision, he has the experience. I know where my money lies, but let’s see where his lies?

Do we have a proper keeping coach yet? I’ve honestly forgotten.

Not currently sure about the goalie coach, Kev. But re the rest of your thoughts, there are a good number of posters on here whose thoughts I respect because they clearly do think about and think through their football. But in the end you're absolutely right, it's Derek Adams who sees ROD and Sam every day in training and through the friendlies. He'll know a hundred times more than any of us - and he's got a good record with decent goalies.

ROD is notoriously left sided in everything he does and the well prepared oppositions ensure he is tested with early pressure on his right hand side and foot.
He is useless low to his right be it a shot, cross or set piece.
Shoot on sight the earlier the better and keep doing it.
Hornby for me at the moment but keep on the lookout for something better. In Adams we trust.

Adams has earned my respect following the defeat on Tuesday. Whatever the call by Adams, I'm with him either way.

Hornby or ROD. The defence is made up as well, with the 5 in front.

We win and lose as a unit.
