Think the International beckons later for post-beer fodder.

Ate at the Swine That Dines in Leeds last night.

50 quid for a menu 'for 2 to share'. Excellent.

By day it was the Greedy Pig greasy spoon but they're focussing on the evening business now. You can take yoir own booze, & the ace Reliance & Brunswick are nextdoor.

Food was v clever without being at all poncy.

Am currently in Hull. Food offerings are scant. There's an Ambiente here @abbomf@abbomf but we're going for a fancy curry at the marina.

Yep, agree with that, it has a ton of great places to drink but we struggled to find somewhere good to eat not a chain. We did have good fish and chips in the Minerva and visited a tapas place that was great, can't recall the name right now but it was directly opposite the station hotel, corner premises. Black Boy and surrouinding pubs well worth a visit.

Funnily enough we're currently sitting in the Minerva plotting a return visit. Cracking pub.

Yep, finding a restaurant we fancy has been a pain. Had a beer at a place that turned out to be an offshoot of Bucca di Lupo (?) in Leeds. Pizzas looked sound - would give it a go.

Entered Leeds via the canal today for a pizza and it took over an hour to find a table in the sun vacant around 3pm. We grabbed the first one we saw, in the square just before Brewery Wharfe at Ciao Bella.

Head guy (owner) has a grumpy face, place well fitted out in the usual stripped back to brick, wooden floor, exposed heating/lighting ducting style which tbh I am getting bit jazzed off with and tending to favour Viva's goodfellas old time look.

I wanted a "Napoli", black olives, capers, anchovies but it was on a Mon-Sat special deal thingy and there was nothing else I fancied. I asked the grumpy guy if I could have one, he asked if I had a "voucher", WTF? Do I look like a bloke with a "voucher" whatever a fookin "voucher" is...............I said no and he then said I could have a "Napoli", then I wished I'd said I did have a "voucher" to see what the difference was.

Waitresses were non-grumpy and good, the pizza came and was bang on, plenty of anchovies and crisp at the very outer and soft under, maybe just 2mm thick, just like in Naples, perfect. Can't recall what pizza Mrs Abbo had. The bill came and I was surprised to see that the pizza had been charged at the special Mon-Sat early bird offer when I'd expected (and was happy) to pay £4 more, nice touch!

Was £26 summat, but that included 2 Peronis at £9.60 so very good value IMO. The early deal is a small selection of mains and starters, 2 courses and a glass of wine for £12.50 which is astonishing value for such a smart looking joint in Leeds.:)

The beer is expensive but yesterday I was in Skipton and ordered 2 pints of Moretti in The Castle pub.....£9.40......

We were in and around the Leeds canal on Saturday & ate at "Matt Healy at The Foundry".

He was a finalist on Masterchef Professionals in 2016 - seemed like a good 'un but I only watched the final week.

Anyway. The Foundry's been around forever - just past the Cross Keys and Midnight Bell. Only opened 2 weeks ago & they haven't gone OTT with the publicity.

Sun was shining so we ate on the terrace. Beef tartare was ace, mackerel starter really good.

I had a fancy chicken kiev & it was as good a plate of chicken as i've ever necked. Not cheap - about 18 quid for the chicken - but excellent.

With the aforementioned boozers it'll make for a good pub & meal run away from the centre.

Bare brick & filament bulbs, of course...

Anyone going to Spotland next season and fancying a decent meal could give Nutters a try. High end dining, which was actually better than I anticipated. http://www.nuttersrestaurant.co.uk/ I have been in the past and found it to be okay, but this time it surpassed expectations.

    Brewers Fayre, Elgin.

Now I like chains and I like pubs so a pub chain should be a no brainer. Not yesterday. Good grief.

It's not hard is it, pub food? Get the chips right, plenty of melted cheese, don't overcook it and you're in clover.

The beauty of chain pubs is that you can be confident you'll get something you'll enjoy that hits the deep fried spot. We're not expecting Masterchef meals.

Me: ribeye steak meal, ordered medium rare. This is their most expensive steak meal. SHITE. Arrived medium to well done except for the middle bit. It was a chore to eat. Bland. The peppercorn sauce was sour. A Schwarz packet sauce is delicious, creamy and thick. This was piss weak, sour and runny. The odd peppercorn doesn't excuse shite sauce.

Wife ordered tandoori mixed grill. Poor lass.

Ever seen the Slimming World equivalent of nice Indian food? That's what her plate looked like. Dry. Dull.

The kids shared chips, nuggets, garlic bread etc but they weren't interested as it was crap. Left loads.

Went home for pudding. 79p Cheesecake with lemon drizzle from Lidl. Best bit of the evening.

Still, had a pint on a week night so not all bad.

Might be a bit late with this, particularly if you were in Haworth for 1940s Weekend?

For future reference, Raj Mahal in Haworth is decent and cheap.

Years ago Haworth Tandoori used to be decent, but it changed ownership and it’s just not the same place anymore. The people who owned it when it was good now own Cardamon in Bingley.

There is also Amontola Fusion in Cross Roads which is the village which borders Haworth. I have always enjoyed the food in there.

Nope this is grand, ta. Meeting some mates in July and as much as the Hawthorne's fancy menu looks cracking I imagine much beer will have been taken and a curry will be in order. Nice one.
