Yes really like The Inn at Whitewell I have been a few times.

I remember that the White Hart at Lydgate use to be in that Great Inns group.

I guess if I have to drive, then I prefer a beer, rather than wine, as clearly you cannot drink as much and a beer gives you more volume.

I have eaten at the Shibden Mill Inn several times and always enjoyed the food and ambience.

If you are travelling up to Scotland, then the George and Dragon at Clifton on the A6 is a great alternative to a Service Station, and easily accessible from the motorway.

I think it's within the last 2 years that the new owners & chef came in at the Waterside so it may have been the old lot when you went. Or maybe not.

Hey, both worth a visit @Bigrod@Bigrod - let us know which you plump for.

Shibden Mill Inn was our eventual choice. Lovely venue with an interior which reflects its 17/18th Century origins. As this was a lunch visit, we only had the one course. Halibut, fine green beans and crushed potato’s with some small amounts of accompanying sauces. The fish was cooked to perfection. A pint of the excellent Little valley Withens Pale Ale as a drink. A tad pricey, but well worth it.

Yeah these owners are pretty new. Looks cracking.

I think Rayner ate there after a radio show in Bradford the other week. Also on the panel that eve was Rob Owen Brown; Lancs chef of distinction who now has a boozer just outside Hebden Bridge that also looks mint:

    The Hinchliffe Arms.

Went to Iberica on Sat night - very nice indeed. Didn't book so ate in the bar as it was fully booked. Really nice atmosphere, good service and very good tapas. Lamb was really nice as was the calamari.

    Due a return here.

Do you mean the bar through the main entrance or the one at the back?

Had a very nice meal here https://www.timberyard.co/food_drink.php stripped down former yard. Very pleasant. Decent food, two amuse bouche, mackerel starter, sweet meats, beef and a very nice desert. Great presentation, washed down with a bottle Martin Schaetzel Pinot Gris as ‘she who must be obeyed’ was on egg/asparagus and Sea Bass, so a good compromise. Certainly worth a visit if you are up in Auld Reekie.

Both bars are good but the one near the entrance is like some dream-like gentlemens club!

Went to a competitor, Ambiente, last Saturday, saw a balcony table free from the wharf so hot footed over. Great place to eat/drink is Calls Landing if you can get a balcony. Staff intensely annoying, I know what fino is, I know how to say dates in Spanish, they don't, I'd already said I don't need any help because I can speak Spanish (they can't) but still they banged on..............

TBh I can't recall what I had (pissed again) beyond some patatas bravas, achovies (en vinagre) and a goats cheese salad but I enjoyed it all, the interior is great, outside is wonderful and it's half the price of Iberica. Give me sun and it's Ambiente, a special ocsasion and I'd choose Iberica.

Intrusive service sounds like a pain. I was relatively impressed when we went a couple of years ago, and there's no denying the ace location but some scrawny seafood was a lowpoint.

Do you know they have a couple of branches in York?

On another note have you heard of a drink they serve in Spain where they top red wine with (a specific) lemonade - tinto de verano? Sounds like a potentially nicer version of sangria I want to try.

Nice one. It's always in the top places to eat up there isn't it? I think when we were last in E'burg it was closed so we went to the Scran and Scallie - Tom Kitchin's "gastropub" - which was grand.

Yes the bar to right of the entrance. We'd definitely go back. Staff were totally opposite to how Ambiente sounds.

Yep, you can pay a lot or a little, supermarket own brands can be very cheap, personally I buy the 1L Don Simon cartons for less than 2 euros! It's about 4% from memory and it is indeed very refreshing cold with ice on a hot day, my kids used to get through gallons of the stuff when they were little...............

Staff were great in Iberica, but just as with Ambiente, they'll have a pile of young kids doing a few hours and I think I was just unlucky meeting a few who just wouldn't listen.

Shame Cafe Bilbao closed, it's now another small (4 outlets) chain tapas joint, La Casita. I looked in and they haven't changed much, again the menu looks like you can easily spend a lot of money and still be hungry if you don't think about your choice carefully. Think I will try it on Satdi.

Are we being had? As good as the food was in Iberica and Ambiente, the same would cost be 50% less in Seville, or Malaga or BCN......same as pizzas, the real deal best ever pizzas I've had came in their home, Naples, and cost me £5/6, here I am paying £10+.

My generous side says it's the potentially larger overheads over here such as rent & import costs (proper mozzarella etc) that force prices up. Those Iberica fitouts must've cost a pretty penny too, which must be reflected in the bill.

I never went to Ricci's in Leeds but it's intetesting that despite the good reviews and busy nights it still, in effect, went bust.
