    Sad to see the Box Tree has lost its Star. :confused: Still if that is not a challenge for them, I do not know what is.
    I got my prediction correct about Moor Hall. I guess the price will increase.
    Intend to give the Moorcock a try in the next couple of months.

    Had 2 nights at the Shibden Mill Inn earlier in the week. First night (sunday) had the roast lamb...pink and perfect! Veg were excellent with carrots that tasted like carrots and proper roasties. Other half had date and nut roast which was very very nice. I had the prawn cocktail out of curiosity and was a bit disappointed. Not much evidence of the whiskey in the sauce but the prawns were good and plentiful. £19 for a roast is steep given that with good ingredients it should be hard to get wrong. Following night I had the wood pigeon breast with beetroot fondant, roasted shallots and pear and beetroot. Pigeon was excellent but it needed something to bring the dish together. It just seemed like a nice idea but the veg elements added nothing to the excellent meat.
    Main was butter poached halibut with smoked potato and clams....brilliant!
    Other half had haddock, chips and minted mushy peas. Tried to sample a bit but I've still got fork marks on the back of my hand.
    Food wise not as good as the likes of Grassington House but overall much preferred it....not as up itself, great service, better wine selection and the room and attention to detail, cleanliness etc first class. Can't wait to go back.

    Great pub. It's in the i newspaper this weekend as part of their "best pubs for food" piece.

    I've read that the Box Tree owner is getting back in the kitchen in an attempt to win the star back.

    Funny old organisation is Michelin.

    I fancy Moor Hall but might need to save up if we want to stay over too...

    In January, we went to the Pollen Street Social Eating House on Poland Street in SoHo. It has a Michelin Star and retains it for next year. The food was passable, but not really Star standard, the service was poor and slow. You were crammed into a very small area (more tables) and the noise was overbearing. The toilets were awful dirty and with a leaking/blocked urinal.
    You compare that experience to the Box Tree and wonder how on earth one can retain its star and the other lose it.
    Still a bit like City. Read most posts and there is a huge variation of views, on exactly the same subject.

    Michelin do seem to favour the south.

    I see the Shibden Mill Inn gets a mention in the i newspaper's "pubs doing food" guide.

    Interesting to see that it no longer gets a mention on the Viamichelin website (yet several Toby Carvery do!!!). https://www.viamichelin.co.uk/web/Restaurants?address=Halifax%2C%20United%20Kingdom
    You wonder if it is some form of paid for recommendation?
    I like the Shibden Mill Inn and certainly recommend it.

    Certainly had footfall, even Saturday afternoons were busy. Wasn't it part of a company, maybe other outlets brought it down?

    The Box Tree, like somebody tipped the contents of an Irish tinkers caravan inside and the staff nailed up the stuff asap.

    Went to Thai Aroy Dee yesterday, am on an Leeds asian thing and will report back soon.............but three things, no alcohol, yikes!! But you can bring your own, wished I'd known. It was completely rammed at 2pm with people queuing as well. Interior made The Box Tree look contemporary.:zippy:

    Well we went to the Hincliffe Arms, following a walk round Withins Clough Reservoir, Cragg Vale and then onto the Coiners Corner http://www.hbwalkersaction.org.uk/gentlewalks8.html
    Sadly this pub failed to impress. My wife had the Sea Bass, advertised as on Kale, but in reality on Cabbage, with a halved new potato a couple of carrots and half a dozen Olives @ £15. I had the Whole roast grouse,     Served with game chips (like kettle chips served cold), bread sauce, watercress and roast gravy. My grouse was tough and not flavoursome @ £18. The service was relatively slow and inattentive (it was very quiet with only a few other tables occupied). The building was okay, and the setting very pleasant. However compared to the Shibden Mill Inn, then it was very disappointing. We would not go out of our way to go to the Hinchliffe Arms, and if we called again, would just have a sandwich.

    The Leeds one shut it's doors and didn't even bother letting their staff know. It's now Box bar brand.
