Wow. Back to back promotions. Bring it on

 

The worst case scenario (apart from 3 losses obviously) is defeat at Northampton, a draw against draw specialists Crewe, and then obviously playing the runaway champions on the last day...

Corr blimey...

We really need to beat Northampton.

 

I'm looking at us and hoping we make the play-offs. 7 points guarantees it.

The autos went when we bottled twice what Stevenage did tonight.
1. Losing to Swindon. 2. Holding on to a goal lead.

If we win out there is no guarantee we will be automatically promoted as Stockport have a far better goal difference as have Carlisle if they win out meaning we are looking at in our own hands to scraping a play off tie via 6th or 7th within a 5 day window.

 

Truth is when it mattered we have bottled it.

Losing to a team who hadn't beaten anyone since February that all our rivals have dispatched.

We have to be thankful that it is still in our hands to make the play offs as it stands.

 

We really have been presented with a number of opportunities to break into the top 3 this season and fluffed every single one of them - very frustrating.

Refereeing decisions have also cost us dearly. For example, the penalty that should have been awarded to us against Rochdale, the harsh penalty awarded to Swindon in the very last seconds of injury time at home. There are more examples.

Of course, all clubs will be able to point to similar decisions, so it's all swings and roundabouts. We have to roll with the punches, and pick ourselves up and go again. The Mansfield result last night was an excellent one for us. We have an opportunity to gain promotion, so let's get out there and take it.

 

If it goes to the last match I can just imagine the trauma of people trying to get info on their phones with the absolutely crap Internet coverage at VP.
The tension will be hard to bear.

 

We have to go for it even though the likelihood is we will fall just short of the autos.
We and the squad would find it hard to take if the results went in our favour only for us to fail to do the business. I remember how I felt after the Ipswich game in 88.
If we do fall short its vital we have that momentum going into the play offs.

 

Stockport are the one that worries me. Easily the best team since they won at our place (they've had a run similar to our late September 98' onwards) and a manager who just always gets promotions. This would be Challinors 7th and the six previous ones, have all been at clubs that have then fallen back as soon as he left.

I also think they are the only one of our rivals that are perhaps genuinely better than us.

So if we don't get automatic - happy for them to get it, instead of Northampton!!

 

Stockport are definitely the team I'd want to avoid if it is to be the play offs, but I suspect they would probably say the same about us!

 

Watt should have received a red too for his part in it all.

 

They should either rescind the red for the Carlisle player or issue a retrospective red to Watt.
The offence was the same from both players

 

There's no defence for it, only an cheating arsehole feigns injury to get a fellow player sent off.

 

It has always been my belief that you cannot play for a draw. You can try but it inevitably leads to the opposition piling pressure on and therefore mistakes resulting in goals. Obviously draws happen despite both teams playing positively.

For me it was the last minute goal last weekend at home to Gillingham. They don't score in the 98th minute, and we would be promoted if we win our last 2, with a better goal difference than Northampton. Real Fine margins in this league.

 

I'm not liking most fans seemingly thinking that play offs at least is a formality.

If we have a frustrating night at Crewe, like we did at Swindon, then huge pressure on Monday to get that point against the best team in the league. Start that game nervously like we did against Gills and go behind, we will struggle to come back and it would be a case of listening for the Mansfield result.

 

I'll have a look and listen but there's no doubt we're poor at managing the game out, at the present moment I can't even contemplate your last comment mate I've posted previously some of the stuff that's been served up has been a hard watch, another season of that could be a little too much even for old Bronco.

 

Not tempting fate but I have just looked on the EFL website, so I can make plans just in case we get into the playoffs.
The first legs of the semi finals are 7.45pm Saturday 13th and 7pm Sunday 14th, with the second legs the following Saturday and Sunday at 12.30 and 3.00pm. Saturday and Sunday night football, that's feels weird.

 

The way we play against the "better teams", I think I'd prefer a run in with teams that are mostly above us rather than below us!
