Why should the government do anything?

Football is a business, it should be governed only by the laws of business.

If football is not viable under the laws of business it should be liquidated.

    No exceptions.

Sentiment has no place in any of this.

The fact is the upper strata of football management are incompetent.

Reading that if it goes through the only glory clubs like us can get is from the FA Cup as there wont be the Carabao Cup, lots of stuff that sounds positive but the PL aren't helping the EFL teams because they don't want EFL clubs to go bust, there will be more the Premier boys want going forward.

I agree but still most of the money will go to championship clubs, They may use the existing TV distribution method to calculate how much each club per division is awarded,

Unless the owners of league one and two teams know the exact figures their clubs will be receiving they are very foolish even contemplating it, as you say the Championship will be getting the big slice of the cake, Holloway was on SSN last night and spoke so much sense.
This was very much an American thing, where apparently in one American sport there is no promotion to the top division, starts with a reduction to 18 clubs of which the top 9 clubs have the biggest say why would it not then be reduced in the future to 16.
He was saying the money football generated for the Exchequer the government should be more involved rather than this proposal, what a choice, an incompetent government or a set of money grabbing Premiership club owners.

So contrary to your claims we have two new proposals on their way this week. Today the premier league are having a meeting where the premier league via CEO Richard masters are expected to put forward their own proposals to help save the game and give Man U and Liverpool a bit of a kicking for doing this.
Also, and one I am looking forward to seeing is this Friday (I think) former FA chairman David Bernstein is expected to unveil a plan they have been working on since March. He has worked with David Davies and other names from politics and sport and the public.
In this proposal there would be no concentrated power and this is the hit I like, independent bodies would over see the fa, the football league national league and the women’s game.

Let’s see what’s out there before we accept this power grabbing, greedy deal

You're not getting the proposal are you? The PL and Masters can come up with what they won't but the top 6 -9 are wanting change to a put that they will a) join the EFL or B) Create a new league. The PL is nothing without the top 6 clubs. Don't you understand that?

The PL deal is 150m as a LOAN - It's been rejected.

FA David Berstein would be for the FA. We are not controlled by the FA. We are controlled by the EFL.

The proposal by Liverpool & Utd have the EFL support and support by 9 of the PL. Maybe more than 9 after today. So a view changes and this will go through.

That will be an interesting meeting not allowing the big boys make a power grab, greed mate no more no less, we saw it years ago managers bitching about a congested fixture list plus Cup games, then the first thing they do when their knocked out of the Cup game fly to the Middle East or Asia to build their brand.
Don't complain about a hectic fixture list and then fly your players half way around the world.

Exactly if they go the way of the 18 teams they are planning on an international premier league tournament every other summer. Held in Asia etc. And they try and make out it’s for the good of the English game. Rubbish. To line their pockets

The owners of the traditional big clubs of the Premier league don't care one little bit for the football league pyramid, this 'bailout' is to benefit them and them only. Losing the two club to drop to 18 and the removing of the league Cup is designed to open up space in the calender for more lucrative World tours and more European competition fixtures. I'm at the stage where I couldn't care less, it will happen regardless. Football globally is a massive business worth billions, nothing will get in the way of the progress of this, to the detriment of smaller clubs across the globe

    Listen it's like this!

The EFL don't care what's happening in the PL. The proposal is a no brainer for the EFL.

The PL has a massive problem because the top 6-9 clubs are basically saying they want out.

The EFL need the money now not in 5 years. The government are doing sod all so its about from an EFL point of view get the money now, have a bigger part of the pie going forward.

If 6 clubs, 9 clubs or 20 clubs have the power doesn't matter to the EFL as the PL has the power now anyway.

No, they're not. If that was the case then they would just form a super league and wouldn't say they would join the EFL.

However, the extension on pre season will mean more international pre season games/visits I admit that.

The efl can kick up all the fuss they want. If the other 14 clubs reject this proposal from Man U and Liverpool it’s dead in the water. Which so far there is allegedly strong opposition to it in its current format. That’s why these other deals will be considered

@Bronco@Bronco is states about money grabbing Pl owners but what have the owners of Bradford City been? What's Rhodes, Rupp and Lawn?

Just because EFL clubs are not in the PL doesn't mean that the owners of these clubs are not money grabbers. Bradford City don't spend on assets barring players. Isn't that money grabbing in a different way? Not spending to invest on improvements? Loaning the club money. Some might say using the clubs as banks.

That's how I see it mate yet other members think it's a good deal, it will be interesting what effect if any will come from the big club fans like Man City who not so long ago were playing in the old division 3, they got lucky and took off, but they could have quite easily have gone the other way.
As yourself the virus is enough for most to contend with and are testing times, what a great time for the top Premier teams to offer to bale football out, there all heart, God bless em.

In essence you are right, football is a business and in business you look after number one. But, and it's a big but, football isn't like any other business, there's history and emotion tied up in our game, we'll over 100 years of it.
They'll end up taking the deal, they don't have any choice. And it's clear something needs to be done to save the football league from itself. But for the big clubs to make out they are doing this in any way for the benefit of lower league football is quite insulting. It's to benefit them and then only.
