Pre season friendlies

Not sure how reliable the commentator is but he said this was Town's first pre season friendly. Maybe why they look off the pace?

 

Is this Town's first team?

 

I suspect from the goal that Stuart is hoping DMH adds the pace running through the centre or centre/right channel. If we're to play this formation all the time it puts a lot of emphasis on DMH and Ismail keeping fit. Does it mean we need another wide player rather than another striker (I know the 3 strikers are slow but the squad isn't balanced yet)

 

Well first thing is its great to see a City team back in action and to be honest its been an enjoyable first half for a friendly. Novak and Guthrie both had their moments but Novak has lost possession a bit too often and Guthrie has a bit about him (for me just needs to work a bit harder). Cooke and Watt pretty tidy (Watt hardly mentioned because the Town commentator obviously didnt know who he was!), Watt has had 3 free kick opportunities for crosses but only 1 good one so far. M-H looks like a very early, poor mans Sterling but took his goal well. Wood not done much but think he is a bit wary about leaving Staunton exposed. Some tidy close passing and triangles but a lot of over-hit final balls. Defence have been a mix of good press, good blocks, shocking passes - but all have done some good things. It is difficult not to predict that we will concede quite a few goals in the coming weeks!

Is Ismail involved? Or is he injured, as per?

 

Ismail on for DMH at HT.

 

A few young lads on for Town now. Could be some loan options there for us? Possibly the young lad Rowe, who's playing right back (and can play right wing).

 

They have a lot of injuries and the second half team are mainly 18-19 year olds.

 

He looks confident on the ball.

 

Don’t want to knock Guthrie but he does a lot of chasing shadows. With his height he should be causing problems for the Town youngsters.

Hes just not very good....let's be honest we signed him for money from team bottom of the league and wasn't in there team

 

He was excellent for our goal and scored a couple agaisnt Doncaster. Hes had zero service this second half as weve been dreadful and are now losing.

 

Most of their kids doo tbf. Definitely a couple that we might be interested in.

 

That Jackson likes a Hollywood crossfield ball.

 

I think there was a deflection there for their goal.

 

Both goals given away through losing possession poorly. On the plus side, we're at least trying to build patterns of possession from the back.

 

Town's academy side look streets ahead of their first team

 

I think if town adapt to this managers system they will do quite well. Similar to Bielsa. Takes 6 weeks to get up to speed with his ideas.

 

We’re chasing shadows at the moment and when we do get possession, we lose it within a couple of passes. When we have the ball the players are miles apart, when they have it, they always have a pass on. Definitely need someone in the middle of the park to take control.
