Goals like this are extremely rare. They are very hard to execute. How many times are goals like this scored at our level? But now we've seen a championship side pull it off in a pre season friendly it's suddenly the blueprint for how to score goals. Not for me I'm afraid. Unless you're playing significantly inferior opposition then you're more likely to lose the ball outside the d and risk conceding. Well done Hull but not for me thanks.

Nothing wrong with playing out from the back....its faffing around side ways and backwards that is our problem. We need to be a bit more forward thinking and direct.

We repeated got out manned in the middle, even by mediocre teams who played 352. Even MH/ GH have seen that. Why do you think the reorganisation to a semblance of 352.? Get our wing backs sorted and we ain’t far off perhaps?

Yesterdays goal was right off the training ground I'm not suggesting for one minute even with movement off the ball you will score every time, but it does help if your team mates move into space to accept the ball, preferably in front of your team mate with the ball.

Just a bit of polite sarcasm. I do think that some caution should be exercised before proclaiming that passing out from the back is the way forward based on one example of an extremely well executed display of said approach. It's very low percentage.

I'm not a lover of it especially at league two level, it's not a matter of playing in out from the back or launch it long, we saw a change from our players on the run in where Lewis tried to get the ball out to our wide player at times, unfortunately a Jordan Pickford he ain't.
At times we try and play it out from the back get closed down and either Lewis finishes up launching it or one of his fellow defenders we are far too predictable, and at times we put ourselves under unneeded pressure, but I fully expect that's the way Hughes will want us to start this coming season.

    There is a difference here.

Some are mistaking playing it continually across the back with playing out from the back?

The latter can be easily achieved without passing the ball sideways.

As has been said before , it’s a balance , however diagonal , long or short gets any team up the field lots quicker than poncing about as Crichlow , Platt, along with Lewis partook in, last season.

Agree. I’d like to see us at least have a plan B. to switch to and give us an alternative to playing out. Last season it seemed plan B. was limited to “hoof to Cook and see what happens”. Appreciate we’re a league 2 club but these are the differences I’d expect to see from a top of the table challenging team.

The same can be said for throw in’s. Last season we were so predictable and woeful. Yes Taylor gives us a much needed option here this season. However, like goal kicks, it’s all about movement. Last season we were so stagnant so hoping the likes of Pattinson and Smith can improve us in this department.

We've now got two creative midfielders in Walker and Pattison. We need to have them both in our starting eleven, and in midfield not wide. Sadly, I have no confidence that that will happen.

Still find it slightly difficult to comprehend that Rotherham are 2 leagues above us.

Unfortunately that leaves the defence exposed as it was in the last twenty five minutes of the first half yesterday. Both Pattison and Walker are good players but if they are going to play together one is going to have to play out of position

So with a match against Middlesbrough on Wednesday it looks like two different teams playing 90 minutes

Yes just seen it’s a week on Tuesday. Unusual to play a game on the week of the first match

Could be 2x 45 min halves with different teams for a bit of extra match practice?

Could be some last minute trialists we want to look at?

Could want to get some minutes under players belts who haven't had chance to play in earlier pre-season games?

Could be a 60 minute match?

Who knows. I'm sure there's some logic behind it.
