Pre-Season Friendlies 23/24

I'm a bit confused. We played 3-4-3 today but no one seems to have noticed. Didn't seem to work that well. Cook or Derbyshire still on their own. But it's still pre-season so it doesn't matter. I just wish we could decide on a system and recruit appropriately and stick to it. We seem, however, to want to be able to play different formations to suit the opposition. I've never known that to work.

Yet folk are stamping their feet saying we need to bring in 2 more wide men on loan....

 

Goals goals and goals are going to be our issue although some on here think we’ve answered that particular problem. Enjoyed the game but we won’t score or create nearly enough to get promoted.. flabbergasted so many can’t see it and even more so that Hughes and Gent cant

 

There's probably a.decent side there in the squad but I'm not sure how it lines up. If we are going 3 centre backs then I think it will take time to work out the best three. Not sure either Halliday or Ridehalgh can play the wing back role.

 

Ridehalgh didn’t offer anything RT. One cross perhaps but probably at fault for their goal? ( I’d need to look again tbh) . Halliday was the better of the two. Are we expecting too much? Not really …those decent wing backs are about ? I think Hendrie is going on loan and Rides as cover only?

 

I think we should all wait until we are playing league matches before deciding how well we are likely to do this season. Hull were a very fit and mobile side who had good interplay and fast passing but yet didn't wallop us.

 

You do understand the opposition today is much harder than those we will face in L2?

Here we go again…now I’m no English proffessor but my definition of loyal means you stick with something or someone through thick and thin. I think I meet that criteria with regards to this club.
Being loyal however doesn’t mean you waive the right to have an opinion or question something that’s not working and my observations so far this pre-season is that this squad will fair no better than last season but time will tell.

 

Unfortunately i got two senior tickets on line by mistake. I was taking my Grandson ( Adult. ) called at ticket office explained the situation I recieved another ticket £2 no problem at all.

The result is irrelevant. It’s more about the fact we don’t seem to have changed the style of play or formation from that of last season.
The addition of Pattison and the breakthrough of Pointon are positives but trying to use Ridehalge and Halliday as wing backs that can provide quality balls from wide simply won’t work.
I truly hope that we have someone like Banks or Wright coming in on loan before or just after the start of the season.

 

Did we play 3x CB for most of last season? I thought we played with 2.

 

You are correct, was 4-2-3-1 most of the time.

 

I think once Hughes gets his midfield three sorted out then the rest of the team will settle. That is, if he goes with a back three which seems very likely. I would expect Pattison and Smallwood to be starters so a case of working round that. The two playing the wide roles is gonna be crucial, if we go 3-5-2 who plays with Cooky? If he goes Smith where does Walker play and Chapman when eventually fit? We need a pacy centre half in there, do we go with Oyegoke or Odusina? Can't play Stubbs, Platt and Taylor together. A lot more questions than answers than normal this pre season Kev.

 

Surprised Telford hasn't gone yet tbh. Can only think it must be because nobody is prepared to pay him whatever he is on at creepy.

 

Other than in a friendly when is the best time to see if a formation change will work?
