It's context and a justified reason as to why he wasn't at his best. Anyone being overly harsh on him based on last season need to pause and think about that.

 

We had three opportunities to stop that goal. Defence, and midfield were weak tackles or non existent.

 

I’m just relieved we aren’t going to have to rely on Cook for goals this year.

We find it hard enough in this division, but Wrexham will take a lot of our 'cup final' appeal I reckon.

 

Really impressed with tonight's performance, great intensity and desire all over with players fully commited and team makes backing each other up in the 50/50s. We still need someone to fill left wing back, but overall I think if we play with that intensity all season we'll do well. not heard anything yet but Ibet Hughes is delighted

Mark Hughes said post match last night we have elected to play with more “ risk” . In my book that’s less emphasis on pizzing around at the back and utilising the higher press. The risk is extremely good teams playing through the press. They are few and far between in this division?

 

It should be good news for the Hughes critics who dubbed him too boring, but a few losses and the knives will be back out, entertaining or not. Ultimately it’s a result’s business, hopefully the new approach brings the results.

 

The have a go at Gillead, regardless of his performances is up and running already I see.

If that's looking like the case then Hughes won't see the season out.
Don't mind us bringing in experience but as one of our key signings we just don't know how much we will see of McDonald. I reckon its been a 5 or 6 out of 10 summer recruitment and pre season - August is going to be an important month in getting off to a decent start and essential strengthening

 

I liked it before I got to the dig at Osadebe, not bothered who starts personally, fresh start this season for all the lads - particularly the fella that spent 70 % of last season out with a shattered leg...

 

Also Swindon beat Plymouth 3-1, two leagues apart. Plymouth must be devastated.

 

And what will be the reaction next week if we lose or even draw?

Then we go out of the cup at Accy and it’ll be

Then when we can’t break down a stubborn Colchester at home.

Fast forward to November when we go out of the FA cup

By this time we’ll be sitting outside the playoffs, Hughes will be under pressure and fans hoping for a good January window.

 

Isn't he more of a wing back?

My main worry is, last season Hughes had plenty of options and didn't seem to really know how best to use them. I see the same again.
