That's when he played. He'd get injured having a shave.

Not sure I can agree on Wetherall. He was solid in our first prem season and the seasons after. When you look back aside from Man U who pumped us every time, we did ok defensively for a first time prem team. Not many stuffings really.
Stayed far too long in the end but not sure that’s his fault more the managers not getting rid.

Absolutely spot on. Hands down, Rahic is (and hopefully never to be repeated again) the most expensive mistake this club will ever make. Given where we were both as a club, management and coaching staff, playing squad, culture and (dare I even say) business - he is the far and away leader.

Rupps million’s are only being hailed due to financing the mess that prat put us in. I gave up thinking where we could have been a long long time ago.

Another strange one @TallinnBantam@TallinnBantam, Claridge scored goals where ever he played.....except for us.

Are you suggesting they were his fault? I’d suggest admins, having to play players nowhere near the league we were in standard were far bigger reasons. Go look at the squads that got relegated and the crap managers we had, that tells the real story. He was very good when we had a good team, like anyone else struggled more in appalling teams, wouldn’t expect anything else. To put blame at his door unless you don’t know the history of that era is bizarre imo.

Each to their own. I saw 90% of the games Wetherall played in home and away, so I formed an opinion based on what I saw.

If you read the post again where does it say I blame him personally?

However, his CV still reads 3 relegations.

The myth of Wetherall remains strong in some.

That's what I was suggesting with regards the alternative in my original reply to @Rogered Tart@Rogered Tart, I've heard the rumours doing the rounds but not sure I believe any, I'm delighted Rupp is still funding us.

Think the 10 years he spent in the top flight were enough to say the lad could play, but each to their own if relegations in a terrible squad make him a waste of money. Better make sure we never buy a relegated player again.

Yes I can, I never said I was happy with how we were performing. Let’s face it, we should be a Championship club in both size of the potential and the size of the city. Too many times I’ve got in arguments with fellow City fans who have the “we’re lucky to have a club” mentality.

As much as I take the piss out of the Geordies I live and work amongst, they’ll never accept the fact they’re mediocre and have the mindset that they should be bigger. I wish a few City fans would think like this.

But don’t worry, we could be division 10 of the west riding league and I’d still travel down the A1 zombie like for games with my kids because it’s in the blood. That’s doesn’t mean to say I’d ever be satisfied.

I'd be happier if he sold up, I don't think his heart is in the club but as I posted earlier it's better than the alternative of him not funding the club.

It’s done Newcastle wonders hasn’t it that mentality. How many major trophies they won in the last 30 years? Same as us I think.
It’s all about the right owners and manager. Nothing else comes into it. No matter how much fans moan and shout.

Well, certainly in the case of somebody like Hope Akpan...

"But he played in the Championship" doesn't really matter when he's getting relegated every season and failing to win a single midfield battle!

Sometimes we really should avoid signing perennial losers!

No argument. And if I recall, most were happy with the signing of Jones.
