Players taking the knee

By So is it racist to have race based stats then?
If the majority of people who attend a game are white and male. Is that racist?

 

So the whole of Scotland now becomes racist as they all (well all the people I have ever met in Scotland over the last 40 odd years) refer to a chinese takaway as a Chinky. I know as I have lots of family up there.

Anyone actually met an offended Chinese person when they heard the word Chinky?

Cash only takeaways would be more of a concern to me=tax avoidance. Now that is something to get offended over.

To be fair a lot of stuff you've posted i agree with. Lets get this clear, i find racism abhorent but i think a lot of unnecessary stuff gets dragged into the debate, not just on here but the debate in general. Take away the obvious abuse of skin colour, then the debate becomes more unclear. Things like religions that dictate a different way of life to what we are used to lead to misconceptions that get mistaken for racism. The colour of skin is an easier one to deal with, it literally is black and white, the deeper problems within society such as the religious connotations are much harder to tackle.

 

The poster didn’t use facts in a way that would have helped but he went on full rant on white and male and something to do with Brexit.

 

Go well, Manningham. You've got it spot on. My wife's Indian and has suffered racism all through her life. She looks at threads like this and just laughs. Yet more white people being annoyed at being accused of any kind of racism or lack of understanding. But yet have no experience of what it's like to have to put up with shit on a regular basis just because of the color of your skin.

 

Stating that is helpful.

if it was predominantly ethic minorities we could try and work out why these people disagree with it.

much like how it isn’t racist when the news say that minorities are much less likely to be vaccinated. I am an ethnic minority (mixed english/south asian) and i take zero offence at that. Should i? Or should we take this knowledge and pinpoint exactly why this group is not taking up the vaccine?

same applies with that poster saying it’s predominantly white and male. Its a statement that really shouldnt offend.

 

Good question Tony. I know she would say if taking the knee makes people think twice or a bit further about how people are treated that's got to be a good thing.

Its not racist to comment on stats and demographics especially when being a member of the group you are commenting on. Your simply wrong. Its not a matter of opinion. Any attempt to obfuscate is to say no you cant talk about that. Which is a dangerous precedent to take.

At the end of the slave trade in the 1800s there were slavers who didnt want slavery to end. If someone commented on the fact they were white and male, by your standards of argument slavery shouldnt have ended. Its ridiculous and again your attitude just highlights that the problem persists.

 

Who is making it decisive? not the people asking for equality and the right not to be persecuted surely?

Manningham was calling us out for commenting on the fact that people who dont support taking the knee are predominantly white and male. He has no understanding of your wifes predicament hence why he thinks any criticism of said demographic is 'racist'.

He gets it so little that he thinks its racist to white people to say that most people who dont support anti racist measures are white. He belittles your wifes daily life by suggesting a non issue is equally as transgressive.

Thats why they should continue taking the knee.

I think @Tony Wilkinson meant to say that taking the knee is divisive, not decisive, which is causing some confusion in this debate.
