After agree with most posts last night was unbelievable in every sense.
Fantastic entertainment and plenty of endeavour from City.
Didn't feel like a loss at all leaving the stadium which in itself was a nice change after witnessing so many poor performance at home.
Credit to all for that display a real team effort to the final whistle.

The down side on that is Peterborough will also be knackered - and they play at Shrewsbury, who are also well within our sights, in terms of where we need to be in the table.

Gotta' look at the bigger picture, bud.
I have worked many an awkward shift - and once home, I stay up for at least 2 hours, to unwind before bed. Therefore today would be 'written off' in terms of training ? Not to mention readjusting the 'body clock' ;)

Roger - I thought caddis had a shocker in the first half against the Peterborough winger Dembele but he improved in the second half, glad when dembele was substituted.

There were several occasions after the goal, that if a free kick was awarded that the ball was picked up and handed to the referee!

World record signing at the time 65k, a week later Stoke signed Banks for 50k - Ron Greenwood knew football :)

Joe Corrigan wasn't a bad keeper but conceded a favourite of mine from the 70s - WHU 4th Ronnie Boyce

As with @Offcomedun’s post i agree with the gist of your post but as a keeper, if you get beat from the half way line then you as the keeper as the main culprit, not some guy who has dropped the ball at the half way line, its about 50 yards away. If he dropped the ball at the edge of the penalty area i could understand it. It was a nervy debut fron Wilson, he wasn’t as bad as some made out and did show a bit more confidence as the match wore on. Good distribution but it was one of those games where both teams set ups allowed for more passing and less long kicking.

I can’t disagree generally about a keeper being beaten from there as it’s certainly unusual, though I’d argue it’s the element of surprise that has done for him (which is why it worked) rather than really poor positioning/technique or similar (assuming Wilson wasn’t out of his area at the time - wasn’t there so can’t say for definite).

Toney could try that another 50 times and he wouldn’t get it as accurate as he did on Tuesday. Equally, as I said before, another reason Wilson might not have immediately spotted what was happening would be because he’d expect his team to stop anything like that. Yep, black mark perhaps for not being fully switched on. Instead, Akpan neatly sets it up for Toney to have a go and then graciously gets out of the way to boot.

Whilst obviously not same level but to sort of prove the point about it being the element of surprise, I played to a decent amateur level in goal for 20+ years and this happened to me, once (and once only!).

I was always wary of positioning, watching whether strikers were taking a regular look at where I was standing during play etc just in case they decided to try something long range.

However, in one game the play was around halfway, opposition got a free kick and I was stood on the edge of my area. Similar to Tuesday, ball was put down and one of their players stood nearby just took an immediate short run at it and hit it, even though I realised what was happening just as he was striking it, that was too late as he caught it perfectly.

I suppose if nothing else it might make Wilson more wary of this happening ever again (it certainly was the case for me!).

Maybe the fact we have no goalkeeping coach doesn't help as these are the kind of tactics experienced ex keeps should know about.

For me,if a player can score from half way,and a few have done, then a keeper shouldn't be any further out than penalty spot.To be on the edge of the area in such circumstances is bravado and can be embarrassing,it set the tone for the game, gave Peterborough confidence and built a wall we had to overcome.

I remember Deano lobbing Dave Seaman with a quick free kick as well, although from what I recall he was a bit closer.

I remember not to long ago during one of our home matches, when we took a free kick for offside in the opponents half. I think the refs just want to keep the game flowing and so long as people aren’t taking the mick, they’ll just play on.

I don't blame the ref, credit the player and recognise genius. If it had been in our favour, that's just what all of us would be doing.

Agree with all of that Ioz, no one (inc the ref) expected what happened - except Toney, and all credit to him as you say. What I meant is it is only an issue where the free kick was taken from because it led directly to a goal

Apologies if this as been mentioned in other threads, but who were the bellends who ran on the pitch and tackled George Miller when he scored. The lad went down injured and nearly needed treatment from the physio
