Well it makes sense if it was Julian. But I'm presuming that JR must have been informed by someone active or at least monitoring this forum. Then again, it's not exactly a cloak and daggers thing organising a plane and a banner and a flyover...so there's lots of possible people who can inform others. I'm suprised it wasn't covered in the media to be honest.

It is that simple. Appoint the right management team. If they deliver success on the pitch few voices will be criticising Mr Rupp. One avenue I'd caution against is recruiting a D.o.F.. Some see it as a panacea but it can bring a whole new set of problems.

I believe at the time the telephone conversation took place @JonButterfield@JonButterfield was told the flying of the banner would have very serious consequences for our club and believing Julian @JonButterfield@JonButterfield did what he believed to be the right call at the time for fans.
Who knows what the outcome would be, yes I'll say it "we still have a club to follow" maybe if the fly bye had gone ahead that may not have been the case, images (2).jpeg

Totally understand the predicament Jon would have been in. To me it shows the true colours of the club in that they didn’t want their total miss management of an upwardly mobile club shared across probably the national sports press.

I contributed and was gutted it never went ahead but I got the position the club rep put Jon in. I like everyone probably thought change was coming maybe a new investor or owner…. No it was to save their faces. That’s why he’s rarely at games!

I'm sure the goings on at the time with regards the fly bye were passed on to the club, just as those who backed the fly bye thought it might change things.

My memory is hazy on this subject. However, I remember feeling there was a not so hidden threat to withdraw funding from our football team.

Unfortunately that’s the mindset that runs quite deep through some of the fan base.

The same threat can't be used this time as the owner isn't putting any money in.

I agree with most of your post but Rupp during his time as our owner has never been a regular at home games, I don't see it as an issue, Rupp was happy to let Rahic run the club before he was outed so I can't see why that should change because Ryan is CEO, Ryan's said they have telephone calls several times a week.

Is it wrong to be happy we still have a club to follow, I could never envisage the alternative.
But I think many knew what sort of reply he'd come back with hence the tin hat comment.

I have been saying exactly the same for days. Rupp is playing a holding game, it’s as simple as that . If he wants to sell the club, which I’m sure he does, he wants to sell it debt free which is probably only one of two attractive features of the club. If I were in his position I would do exactly the same.
People seem to forget it’s his business therefore an asset to him and his family. Hard nosed reality I completely agree.

Is he actively selling the club - I mean, do people know he's up for selling? Personally, I think he's put the club down as one of the products in his portfolio that is "ticking along". Owning a football club (or being a shareholder in any other project) must give him some benefits in his other business dealings. I don't see why he would want to sell if the club isn't losing him any money. The only thing that would make him sell imo, is that if he has to get more personally involved than he wants to. Right now, it seems Sparks is doing all the legwork, but sooner or later he's going to get called out, and Rupp is going to have to make some decisions. I do wish that someone would tell Rupp that if we get relegated, his operating profits are going to take a nosedive. Maybe that would make him think a bit more about his portfolio.

Where I disagree slightly Jordan is Rupp wants to sustain what he has without spending anymore but for non footballing reasons. If the footballing side of the club progresses that just enhances saleability. Hes concluded, the club will just tick over financially, without additional cash inflow from him. Let’s say he ploughed in £5m to “buy” promotion. What would his gaurantee be it would work….nil. Ask Salford perhaps? As a result he’s chucked £5m down the drain or added £5m debt to the club thus making a sale LESS likely.
Quite a conundrum, with the supporters sat in the middle. We all know that success on the field of play would see the stagnant atmosphere I have banged on about for several seasons disappear overnight and this wouldn’t be seen now as a daily debate worth getting involved in.
There isn’t a solution , other than on the grass.

I have come to the conclusion that criticising players individually is unfair. We keep changing players and systems and it is very hard to get a settled team. Yes they can give 100%, as we expect, but all that effort is achieving very little. Plus as we saw on Saturday the confidence in the team just drained away.
